We must demand that Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor immediately release the names of every soldier to whom they granted confidentiality in their documentary NAZA while documenting admissions of war crimes.

There is something fundamentally perverse about creating films and journalism centered on Israeli soldiers confessing to atrocities against Palestinians while simultaneously protecting those soldiers from identification and potential accountability.

Palestinian suffering cannot simply become material through which Israeli filmmakers interrogate their own society, generate discourse, win acclaim, or invite audiences to contemplate the psychology of the perpetrators. These testimonies contain admissions of war crimes. The question cannot end with what these soldiers said or how their confessions made an audience feel. The question is what accountability follows.

Otherwise, Palestinian suffering is once again transformed into spectacle, while the people responsible for inflicting it remain protected.

I'm happy to educate you about the horrifying history of Zionist collaboration with the Nazis and other fascists, albeit briefly in a tweet. With these pointers, you can do your own further reading.

- The Haavara agreement, which broke the Jewish boycott of Nazi Germany - The collaboration of the Zionist leadership in Hungary with Eichmann, which led to the deportation and murder of hundreds of thousands of Hungarian Jews, under its leader Kastner
- Eichmann was received in Palestine as a guest of the Zionists in 1937, to discuss their joint interest in achieving the anti-Semitic plan of removing Jews from Europe
- Previously, in 1933, SS official Leopold von Mildenstein visited the Zionist colonists in Palestine, and returned to Nazi Germany with glowing reports
- And while the Nazis cracked down on most Jewish organizations, they uniquely tolerated and promoted the Zionist Federation, allowing it to continue operating because of the joint Nazi-Zionist anti-Semitic interest in promoting European Jewish emigration.
- Of course the collaboration was not limited to Nazi Germany, but infamously, the Revisionist Zionists under Jabotinsky, the direct political ancestors of Netanyahu's Likud, were given a Naval school and training facility in Civitavecchia by Mussolini.

The logic of Zionist collaboration with the Nazis and other anti-Semites is well encapsulated in Theodor Herzl's infamous statement that: "The anti-Semites will become our most dependable friends, the anti-Semitic countries our allies," as well as in David "Ben-Gurion" Grün's horrific 1938 admission: "Were I to know that all German Jewish children could be rescued by transferring them to England and only half by transfer to Palestine, I would opt for the latter, because our concern is not only the personal interest of these children, but the historic interest of the Jewish people."

The Zionists' primary interest was never protecting Jews, but establishing a nationalist settler-colony, no matter the price to Jews (and others). That remains the Zionist logic today, where the price of maintaining their settler-colony is carrying out a traditional European-style genocide and mass expulsion of the Palestinians.

It is for good reason that Zionists sought to hide or downplay this horrific and extensive history of ideological affinity and direct collaboration between the Zionists and their fellow European fascists. But they are becoming increasingly brazen, which is why they no longer bother to pretend not to be friends with the worst European far-right extremists.

Meet Maj. Menachem (Mendi) Lasri, former deputy commander of Nahal's 50th Battalion and one of the most notorious war criminals in the IDF. According to the testimony of his own soldiers (covered wonderfully by Revital Hovel of Ha-Makom), he is responsible for the following crimes:

1) Ordered an officer to shoot an elderly disabled and blindfolded Palestinian woman. The officer was escorting a supply run and was supposed to evacuate her to Israel. He took her out of the vehicle, shot her dead and drove on.

2) In Zeitoun, he had his soldiers tie detonating cord around the neck of a Palestinian man of about 80. The cord was attached to a detonator. For hours the man was used as a human shield and sent first into houses that might be booby-trapped. A soldier who was there said: "He just put the chain on his neck, like he's a dog."

3) He then released that man and his wife without telling other units in the area. About 100 meters later, another battalion shot both of them dead in the street.

4) He kept Yousef, a Palestinian of about 20, as a "shawish" (forced human shield) attached to his command post. That lasted around an entire TWO MONTHS, which soldiers called unusually long. Yousef spent stretches bound and was cursed and shouted at.

5) Near Qalqilya on October 7, he and a company commander allegedly detained two Palestinian knafeh sellers, supposedly for celebrating the massacre. Two soldiers said the men were beaten all day and left covered in blood. They were placed in the middle of the company area and "anyone who wanted could go hit them." Asked if Lasri took part, a soldier said: "He started it."

8) In Gaza, a Palestinian who spoke no Hebrew walked up to a guard post. The guard shot him in the leg. Lasri allegedly took the wounded man, sent the soldiers out and stayed alone with him. Soldiers outside heard screaming they said no interrogation could explain. It is believed extreme torture was used.

7) He looted appliances and electronics from Palestinian homes and brought them to Israel. As deputy commander he controlled inventory and the supply convoys going in and out of Gaza. One soldier said: "He just took what he wanted."

8) He entered Gaza with several machetes carried by his command team. He told them the machetes were "for the foreskins of the Palestinians."

9) Soldiers say it is common knowledge in the battalion that he hit his own soldiers and had "crazy rage attacks."

10) A recording captures him screaming at a lone soldier who asked for leave while his father visited Israel. Lasri threatened to keep him on base for up to half a year. He shouted "I'll make you darkness of Egypt," called him "son of a whore" and spat at him.

11) A second recording, with a soldier caught smoking cannabis, has him calling the soldier "son of a bitch," "idiot" and "rag." He threatens to "fuck up" the soldier's life and send him to Military Police. The soldier asked why Lasri had called his mother about it.

12) He allegedly refused to evacuate a wounded soldier who could not walk, against the battalion doctor's instructions. Clinic staff say he mocked soldiers' injuries.

13) Soldiers say he regularly opened fire without giving a fire order first. That broke basic safety procedure and left his own troops with no warning.

The psychopathic and criminal behavior of Lasri was known to battalion commanders who gave him full autonomy and were "completely aware" of what he did. Much of this was ordered rfrom above, especially the human shield routine which they called "Mosquito Protocol." Today, Lasri is hiding out in an unnamed Latin American country. He must be brought to justice.
