For the month of May, the MHSAA, in partnership with @ElitePT_MS continues the Athletic Trainer Spotlight Program by recognizing Jeff Bryant

He started this journey with the Hattiesburg Public School District as a full time employee beginning August 1, 1993. From that point, he was able to support student athletes in becoming successful in their sport and later in life. While serving as their athletic trainer, he had the opportunity to serve his community locally, and professionally at the state, regional, and national levels.
As a result of the support he felt in the Hattiesburg Public School District, he became an active participant in many organizations, specifically with the athletic trainers’ professional organization at the state level known as the Mississippi Athletic Trainers’ Association where he served as Chair of the Secondary School Athletic Trainers’ committee (1997-2020), Vice-President (2004-2012), President (2012-2020), and is currently serving on the honors and awards committee. He was awarded multiple honors as a result of his service including being inducted into the MATA Hall of Fame (2024).
At the state level, Jeff served on the Mississippi High School Athletic Association’s Sports Medicine Advisory Committee (2004-2017). He served as a vendor for the MATA Capitol Hill Day (2012-2020) and lobbied our state legislators concerning concussion protocol (2014) . Jeff and many others including Brian Maskew, Kevin Mauldin, and Travis Holifield which were employed in secondary school settings in the state began lobbying to extend the National Board salary supplement to include Board Certified athletic trainers employed by local school districts due to the language of the original bill which took 18 years to accomplish (2021).
