As someone who has lost a parent. I don’t remember calling my friends one by one to talk them. The friend who stays close to my house heard the news and told all my other friends.

I’m simply saying it’s good that, as Muslims, we hold ourselves to high standards. It’s good that we hold one another accountable. But the sexism is just too obvious—as though if Abuja women are considered ‘used,’ it isn’t the same Abuja men who ‘use’ them. As though, Islamically, there is any difference between the sin of a man committing fornication and that of a woman committing fornication.

Also, stereotypes are dangerous. As Muslims, we shouldn’t lump people from a particular place together and stain them with negative labels.

There are married women in Kaduna, Kano, and across Northern Nigeria who hug men too.

You can condemn the act and preach against it without framing it as ‘Abuja women’s behavior.’
