THE #SR43 SELECTION IN FOUR MINUTES

ICYMI: The 43rd Student Regent selection took place during the third and final day of the 61st convention of the General Assembly of Student Councils (GASC) on August 8 in the atrium of UP Mindanao.

Lasting about 15 hours, the Student Regent selection is a process where all present student councils in the assembly unitedly decide who to forward as their next representative.

The selected Student Regent shall serve as the lone representative of the whole UP student community in the highest decision-making body in the university, the Board of Regents.

With the session officially adjourning at 3:12 a.m. after the body has reached a consensus, watch how this gruelling process unfolded this year.

The University of the Philippines (UP) Manila College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) registers four winning candidates in the 52nd CAS Student Council (SC) elections last Thursday, Aug. 4.

Miel Gabriel Lagdan is elected chairperson after receiving 90.27% of the votes, while independent Candidate Rein Margarette Sarmiento will serve as the vice chairperson after garnering 84.14% of the total vote.

Meanwhile, two other Sulong CAS candidates were elected: Marc Joshua Gregor Camero as the college representative to the USC with 85.41% votes, and Arjay Vergara as the national solidarity and local issues councilor with 84.68% votes.

From last year’s polls with 10 out of 13 members, the CASSC will need to fill nine posts this year to complete the slate.

Serving as the first Student Regent nominee from the UP Open University, Manalili clinches the highest position for student leaders in the university, serving as the sole student representative in the Board of Regents (BOR) of the UP System for the following academic year.
