#DoPT has reallocated 2,000 sq ft of space at the ground floor of Kartavya Bhawan-3 to set up a “Workplace Crèche”, while Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances #DARPG, which is the nodal department conducting the campaign, has additionally freed 1,200 sq. ft. of office space to set up recreation zone.
Maha Navami is a celebration of courage, devotion, and righteousness. 🌸✨ It reminds us that the strength to overcome challenges comes from within, guided by values of truth and dedication.
As we honor this auspicious day, let us embrace the spirit of goodness and allow it to illuminate our paths. Wishing everyone peace, positivity, and prosperity this Maha Navami. 🙏 #MahaNavami
As a part of #SpecialSwachhataCampaign 6.0, rearranged and reoriented 2,000 sq feet space on the ground floor of Kartavya Bhawan-3 to start a “Workplace Crèche” by #DoPT in collaboration with Greh Kalyan Kendra. This also reaffirms our commitment to a more inclusive and family-friendly workplace.
The facility provides a safe, nurturing environment for 30–35 children, with dedicated spaces for play, learning, feeding and rest.
Reliable childcare is especially important for working mothers, enabling them to focus on their professional responsibilities with peace of mind, with the confidence that their children are in safe and caring hands.
A meaningful step towards employee well-being and a more supportive workplace.
How extreme precipitation events influence glacier mass balance in the Western Himalaya
NCPOR research has shown that extreme precipitation can have contrasting effects on Western Himalayan glaciers. Winter snowfall can enhance snow accumulation and temporarily reduce mass loss, while rainfall during warmer conditions can accelerate melting.
The study highlights why precipitation type and temperature are critical to understanding glacier change.

NIOT had successfully conducted and completed a 48 hr world ocean hackathon in collaboration with Campus Mondial de la mer , jointly with IEEE OES Madras Chapter during 16-18 Oct. A total of 7 teams participated in the hackathon for the challenges posed by NIOT. The Pan India contest was hosted at St Joseph's College of Engineering chennai.
The challenges were related to the real world application of science and engineering solutions to create a societal impact and ocean resilience 🌊
The winning team will travel to Brest for the final pitch.
As part of the *Seva Sankalp Abhiyan*, the Ministry of Personnel, #DoPT, organised a Blood Donation Camp at Kartavya Bhawan, witnessing the enthusiastic participation of over 100 employees who volunteered for this noble cause.
A commendable step towards serving humanity and saving lives through the spirit of Seva.
A total of 203 from Sriram Engineering College, Perumalpattu, GRT collage Thiruvallur, Sri Krishna Institute of Technology, Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai, accompanied by 12 faculty members, visited the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT).
The visit was organized to provide the students with first-hand exposure to advanced ocean technologies, marine engineering systems, subsea technologies, and ongoing research and development activities in ocean science and technology. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical academic knowledge and practical engineering applications by highlighting NIOT’s indigenous technological developments, multidisciplinary research methodologies, and innovative solutions for ocean exploration, marine resource assessment, and sustainable utilization of ocean resources.
During his interaction with the students, Prof. Balaji Ramakrishnan, Director, NIOT, emphasized the strategic significance of ocean exploration, marine technology, and the Blue Economy in advancing India’s sustainable development and long-term economic growth. He further stressed the need to strengthen indigenous technological capabilities, promote cutting-edge research and development, foster engineering innovation, and encourage multidisciplinary collaboration to address emerging challenges in ocean science and technology. His interaction provided valuable insights into the role of advanced marine technologies in enhancing ocean resource assessment, deep-sea exploration, environmental monitoring, and the sustainable development of India’s maritime sector.
Mission Mausam: Shri Arul Muthiah, Scientist, National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) visited M/s E2M Technologies, Netherlands, for Factory Acceptance Testing of the 3-Ton 6-DOF Multi-Axis Shake Table System. The FAT is an important milestone in ensuring the readiness of the equipment for installation and commissioning at NIOT.
The proposed multi-axis shake table facility is expected to play a vital role in laboratory testing and validation of indigenous floating ocean observation platforms under development at NIOT, by simulating multi-axis motions representative of ocean conditions. This capability will further support design validation, motion response assessment, and performance evaluation, thereby strengthening NIOT's indigenous technology development efforts under Mission Mausam.

🌿 SCDPM 6.0 | NIOT’s Commitment to Swachhata & Sustainability 🌿
As part of the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM 6.0), comprehensive initiatives have been undertaken across all NIOT campuses towards Collection, Segregation and Disposal of E-Waste and Scrap Materials.
♻️ E-Waste Management: E-waste has been collected and segregated, with auctioning arrangements currently in progress.
🔩 Large-Scale Scrap Disposal: Around 35 tonnes of Mild Steel Scrap has already been disposed of, with another 10 tonnes expected to be disposed of shortly. Aluminium and Plastic Scrap have also been disposed of.
💰Revenue from Scrap Disposal : The disposal process is expected to generate approximately ₹45 lakh in revenue by the end of the Campaign
👁️ Health & Well-being: A Free Eye Check-up Camp was organised for Swachhata staff and NIOT personnel in association with Vasan Eye Care.
💡 Waste-to-Value: Research proposals exploring the effective utilisation and value addition of waste, both on a large and small scale, are also being evaluated, particularly for applications relevant to NIOT’s activities.
These initiatives reinforce NIOT’s commitment to Swachhata, sustainability, responsible waste management and resource optimisation. 🌱
