It seems the province and Metrolinx are starting to serious with developing underutilized land and parking lots next to GO stations. This development at Aldershot GO is proposed to have nearly 3000 homes
The @ONgov is proposing a transit‑oriented community (TOC) near Aldershot GO Station, which will include about 2,715 new homes and support approximately 80 new jobs closer to transit.

line 4 in toronto is often joked as a stub line that "no one uses", but it very much has ridership!
here's what line 4 looked like today–it's only low usage when compared to the core lines

#TTC Line 1 update: 25 new rails installed between Yorkdale and Wilson, with bonding and fasteners nearly complete. Crews have already removed three slow-speed zones. Yesterday’s concrete pour is curing. Thank you for your patience during today’s single‑track service and shuttle buses between Wilson and Lawrence West. This is critical state‑of‑good‑repair work to keep service safe and reliable. Full service resumes tomorrow.
#TTC Line 1 update: concrete pour north of Yorkdale is complete. Crews are moving along the line with additional track work to remove slow-speed zones. This is critical state‑of‑good‑repair work to keep service safe and reliable.
One of the biggest problems with GO expansion is that there doesn't seem to be a plan to make Scarborough GO a transfer station. Currently only Lakeshore GO trains stop here, and some future plans only had Stouffville trains stopping at the station
@BakshyK@RM_Transit There are two lines that pass through the station, the Lakeshore East and Stouffville Lines, however currently only Lakeshore East trains stop there. In future plans it seems only Stouffville Line trains will stop there.
📍 Moss Park
Crews have finished the first concrete pour for the future station concourse. This is the area where passengers will move between the street, platforms, and station services.
Very exciting to see housing moving forward at Scarborough Junction GO station, which will be one of the biggest transit hubs in the city as GO expansion upgrades move forward. Construction is planned for 2027 and occupancy in 2030.
A major provincial investment is set to advance the first phase of the Scarborough Junction Masterplan, a transit-oriented community planned around Scarborough GO station. The Ontario government has announced an investment of up to $178 million through the Building Ontario Fund (BOF) to support approximately 1,700 purpose-built rental homes, including 340 affordable units with below-market rents. https://t.co/5BUYoRewPd

@ttcdoors We know that doors have to come eventually. They'll be in Ontario Line stations.
But in major stations like Bloor-Yonge (where they are already planning major renovations) there is no excuse to not add them to the project.
Even just Union, Bloor-Yonge, St George, etc to start
It's good to see another GO parking lot planned to be developed into dense housing. This development is at Mount Joy station on the Stouffville line in Markham, project documents are not public yet, but will be posted on the project page next month: https://t.co/mRGQESfyQJ
The proposed transit-oriented community (TOC) near Mount Joy GO Station will include about 2,090 new homes with nearly half being 2 or 3-bedroom units. The area will also support about 100 retail and office jobs through a mixed‑use community, close to transit options.

Toronto’s transit cost disease has hit… metal fences.
$2M CAD is about the same cost of half height PSGs for one platform in Hong Kong.
Then we use NYC to justify our wild cost estimates for actual screen doors. The incuriosity and Anglo echo-chamber is astounding.
We only compare ourselves to other North American agencies like the MTA, who regularly have some of the worlds highest construction costs. In order to get crucial transit projects funded and built, we need to acknowledge the transit cost problem and aggressively combat it. 4/4
We're very disappointed to see that the initial pilot project to install platform edge doors on the subway has been downgraded to metal fences (seen in NYC), paired with track detection systems. This does not provide the full benefits of Platform Edge Doors. 1/x
The reason we are going for this half solution comes back to cost, our PED installation is expected to cost 10x more than comparable European projects. When asked about the high costs, TTC staff said costs were in line with NYC (the world's most expensive city to build transit)
