New western quoll (idnya) babies for the new reintroduction site in
Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park.
25 were translocated from Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park in April. Funded through the @SAEnvirWater Bounceback Program, FAME and SAAL, #NLP2 . #wildoz
87 years ago today, the last known #thylacine died at #Hobart's zoo, marking the #extinction of the largest marsupial carnivore of modern times.
#Museums are their only remaining habitat: the tragic reality of extinction is crystallised into their specimens. #ThreatenedSpeciesDay
One of our luckiest and most unusual sightings in Papua New Guinea this year was of this Papuan Quoll at Kumul Lodge. This rare predatory marsupial is seldom seen, yet this inquisitive individual repeatedly approached us to within a few metres! Unreal!! #wildlifephotography
Meet Aang the Quoll!
At 1.65kg, he's one of the heftier chuditch we translocated to Mt Gibson this year. Here, I'm releasing him back into the wild after a quick check-up yesterday. He was looking very healthy and has even gained some weight since we first caught him 😀.

Sad that the West MacDonnell Ranges are burning hot & fast yet again. The only wild habitat of the central rock rat burning now. The CRR is one of our priority species and the West Macs one of our priority places. We must change how we manage our critical habitats #ClimateCrisis
On behalf of the local organising committee I'm excited to announce the 3rd IUCN/SSC International Conservation Translocation Conference will be coming to Fremantle, Western Australia between 13-15 November 2023. Check out https://t.co/ScKyuG4mEp #ICTC2023
A truely unforgettable moment last year while documenting nocturnal surveys with Josh from the @WildlifeQLD yellow-bellied glider project. When I saw the pouch from this white morph greater glider wiggle my heart skipped a beat. #wildoz#greaterglider@ILCP
The International Conservation Translocation Conference 2023 will be held at Fremantle WA in November this year. A great range of talks, workshops and networking events, following on from the last international conference in Chicago pre-Covid. https://t.co/CEKxfZ1fK8

Good seasonal conditions have resulted in a population boost for flora and fauna within Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park, in particular for the ever-popular #budgerigar.

@leroy_megan Okay thanks, I will look into it. Shouldn’t be any pitfall traps there! Also our pitfall traps normally have mesh or holes on the bottom so water can escape. Thanks a lot
The defensive display of a dead leaf mantis, a giant mouth with huge spiked teeth
But this is an illusion
What you are looking at is the front spiny legs folded to create this intense deception
This is called Deimatic behaviour
@leroy_megan@MoyleTali Age and reproductive status- we want young ones that don't have yellow/chipped teeth (under 3 years old), and not lactating, which would mean they have young denned somewhere #quollpatrol
Taronga Conservation Society Australia has released 15 endangered #chuditch (#westernquoll) into the Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park – a significant milestone for the species which is extinct in four states and territories.
