The United Sons & Daughters of Freedmen (USADOF) unequivocally rejects all claims asserting that American Freedmen are Indigenous peoples or Native Americans in any legal, political, historical, or tribal sense.
USADOF recognizes and respects the distinct histories, identities, sovereignty, and legal status of federally and state-recognized Indigenous nations and Native American tribes. We do not seek to appropriate, redefine, or claim Indigenous identity as a basis for our advocacy, organizing, or policy objectives.
Our mission and advocacy are grounded exclusively in the unique historical and legal status of American Freedmen; the descendants of persons emancipated from chattel slavery in the United States. Our claims arise from the federal government's direct involvement in the institution of slavery, the promises made during Reconstruction, the subsequent dismantling of Reconstruction-era protections, and the continuing harms experienced by this specific population.
USADOF maintains that the case for American Freedmen reparative justice stands firmly on its own merits. It does not require, nor does it depend upon, assertions of Indigenous ancestry, Native American status, or tribal affiliation. We reject narratives that conflate these distinct historical experiences or undermine the sovereignty and identity of Native peoples.
Accordingly, USADOF affirms that:
๐ด We do not claim that American Freedmen are Indigenous or Native Americans as a people in any way.
โช๏ธ We do not base our advocacy on theories of Indigenous identity or Aboriginal status.
๐ต We recognize and respect the sovereign status of Native American tribes and nations.
We assert that American Freedmen possess a distinct historical and legal status rooted in the legacy of slavery, emancipation, Reconstruction, and the unfinished obligations owed by the United States government.
USADOF remains committed to pursuing justice through an evidence-based, historically accurate, and legally sound framework centered on the unique experiences and claims of the American Freedmen community.
Signed, United Sons & Daughters of Freedmen (USADOF)
Finishing the unfinished work of Reconstruction through truth, and remedial justice
Another painful reminder that voting rights are still under attack. The Supreme Court has allowed Alabama to use a congressional map for the 2026 elections that eliminates one of two majority Black districts, even though a lower court had found the map intentionally discriminated against Black voters.
We must be honest about what is happening. When Black voting power is weakened and fair representation is denied, democracy is weakened. We cannot afford complacency in this hour.

In 1969, the Black Panthers launched free breakfast programs across the US, feeding thousands of kids before school. The FBI called it a threat. In some cities, police raided kitchens, smashed food, and urinated on supplies to shut them down.

As President, I would free all of the political prisoners. Take Assatta Shakur off of the most wanted list. Free Mumia. Hang a picture of Khalid Muhammad in the Oval Office with a bust of Noble Drew Ali. I would push congress to give me a reparations bill to sign and America will FINALLY become great!
Check out my brother's @MrAliBey paper refuting the RACIST Preston Damsky! We never even received a notification that the paper was published! Almost 40 downloads!

@AP For those of you who genuinely care about this, we are asking that you sign our petition which forces the US Government to finally acknowledge its role in this horrific institution with a formal apology to today's American Freedmen families https://t.co/aFRq1Wpp95
BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV makes historic apology for Holy See's own role in legitimizing slavery and for failing to condemn it for centuries. https://t.co/cQz8oU5Wkh
I see Trump getting away with this even if challenged because "insurrectionists" isnt a racial group & doesn't violate the colorblind Constitutional doctrine of the SCOTUS. Our Reparations should be for the class of American Freedmen families in the United States.
When this nation can create billion dollar funds for political allies and supporters, but still will not address reparations for the descendants of slaves, that is not incapacity. That is choice.
America is capable of repair. It has yet to choose justice.

The claim that Black fathers are absent collapses when you look at the data.
For over two decades, research from the Fragile Families & Child Wellbeing Study to the CDC has shown that Black fathers are often deeply involved in their childrenโs lives, whether they live in the home or not.
LA family, this is the next phase of the Reparations movement in California. Join READ Roots this Juneteenth to trace your genealogy, learn if you descend from U.S. chattel slavery and are an American Freedmen, and build power for our future.
