In 1932 Scott and Helen Nearing left New York and built their home from local stone, in Vermont and later Maine, by hand, without any experience or machinery and little to no money. They used the slipform stone masonry technique, usually considered the easiest and most beginner friendly stone building method. They built many structures the same way, all still standing.
Sheen’s “Napoleon never existed!” is one of my favorite takedowns ever. So many religious/historical debates are full of the kind of thinking parodied here:
For a long time I found the idea of writing a book daunting. But I have discovered a method that is actually very easy if you work at it a bit everyday. Here are the steps I took to complete my first book:
1. Start a blog and beginning writing about the current thing.
2. Embrace your autistic tendencies to over explain and explore all the related angles and rabbit trails.
3. Realize that your “blog” post has crossed the 10,000 word mark and that the current thing has now past.
4. Continue writing until your intellectual curiosity is satisfied. This usually happens somewhere between 15-40,000 words.
5. Put your “blog” to the side and begin pondering the next current thing until you get frustrated that no one is accurately representing your opinion.
6. Repeat steps 1-5
7. Revisit your “blogs” and add an intro to make it an evergreen concept that uses the long-past “current thing” as an illustrative example. These “blogs” are now chapters.
8. Google how long book chapters are supposed to be, then divide your 30,000 word chapters into 5 or 6 normal size chapters; adjust accordingly.
9. Combine all your chapters into a master file on google docs titled “final draft”
10. Discover that google docs has a limit of 1,532,197 characters per document; rename your document “final draft part 1” and put the rest of your chapters in a separate document labeled “final draft part 2”
11. Download pre-formatted Microsoft word templates from Amazon KDP. Start with something reasonable like 6x9, then check to find out your 1,200 page, 340,000 word book is too big to be printed.
12. Reformat at the biggest possible size and order an authors proof.
13. Receive your phone book sized tome and recognize it as the work of a mad man, but also that the font is much bigger than necessary.
14. Reduce the font size and remove 7 chapters you were nervous about your mom reading.
15. Reformat at the desired 6x9, going through and reducing the size of every blank line to get it under the 828 page limit. Use this time to revise the structure of the book, and think of proper names for the chapters you had lazily titled “economics part 1-6”
16. Adjust your cover art and mysteriously delete one letter in the subtitle. Re-upload and start spreading the news!
Maybe the greatest interview in late night TV history, Dick Cavett interviewing John Cassavetes, Peter Falk, and Ben Gazzara for 45 minutes, but all three of them are so blackout drunk they literally couldn’t air the episode
Why are ancient Chinese seasons different than Western seasons?
It all starts with the GNOMON.
This device casts a shadow. The high-rising sun in the summer casts the shortest shadow & the low-rising sun in the winter, casts the longest shadow at noon.

Várias séries seguem essa fórmula: artistas judeus criando personagens tipicamente judeus, com os estereótipos (os judeus assistindo vão pegar a referência) e disfarçando-os de outra coisa ("italianos" etc). É assim c/George Constanza, Shrek, Gilmore G
