Black Families from DC share in the impacts of these ill’s …. They impact us far more directly than I think people understand…. We cannot ignore them , these families need help and support , particularly the children .

But you cannot only help the children

How many of the people battling addiction , that have OD’ed are the parents and grandparents of the children walking into our schools

And those people at the jail are not just men … how many Mothers and Fathers are over there .. how many children walking into our schools on the 1st day have an incarcerated parent

The DC Jail population is higher than it’s been in years … so many of those residents are parents .. as we head back to school I wonder if we are thinking about how that reality is showing up in the lives of their children
