As a leader, just because I’m giving appreciation, doesn’t mean they’re feeling it.

This Thanksgiving season I’m thankful for all teachers. Ya’ll have been drinking out of a fire hydrant since March, and somehow, you still show up every damn day for kids. Thank you. Take time for you this weekend.

schools in spring 2020: the world is ending. testing is canceled. everything is pass/fail. take care of yourself.
schools in fall 2020: the world is ending. wear a mask while you take your test. please make sure your assignments are in on time.
Don't write off students who struggle and label them as lazy or unmotivated.
Instead, be curious about the skills they're missing that we can teach them to help them succeed.
Let's assume the best about kids. Most often they want to succeed but may not have the tools...yet.
You're not grading assignments.
You're collecting evidence to determine student progress and pointing them towards their next steps.
Make the mental switch. It matters.
Diversity is who is in the room.
Inclusion is who has influence in that room.
Anti-racism is a mindset, way of being, and goal for a group of people in a room.
These are not interchangeable terms.
