Hello from a Wawa somewhere outside Washington, D.C.
#MulaneyReads this month is all about The Left and the Lucky by Willy Vlautin. I read this in a day, just in love with the characters, very funny people in some cases, very tragic, very human.
It reminded me a lot of one of my favorite movies “Joe” by David Gordon Green. I’m really a sucker for any story of an older person taking a lost kid under their wing. This one is electric. Buy it at your favorite bookstore.
Okay on to Norfolk, VA. See you somewhere.
“Splinters: Another Kind of Love Story” by Leslie Jamison is my April #MulaneyReads pick. I finished this a few days ago on a train to Wolverhampton, England and haven’t stopped thinking about it. I have not lived Jamison’s life but certain stories of parenthood (“Lit” by Mary Karr, “Blue Nights” by Joan Didion, Noah Baumbach’s ‘Margot at the Wedding’ and ‘The Babadook’) will resonate with many people.
You absolutely don’t have to be a parent to get into this incredible memoir. But enough disclaimers, just read it. It’s great.
📺 Tommy’s first guest tonight on ‘The Tommy Tiernan Show’ is Comedian, Writer and Actor John Mulaney.
