Dawn's pedigree and confidence helped her navigate the masculinity of TV sports, where competitors could be more difficult to handle than players and coaches. “Secure men will help you along the way. It’s the men who weren’t happy and wanted my job who would undermine you.”

Dawn grew up in Massachusetts with four brothers running button-hooks in street football, was a three-sport athlete in high school. Played soccer and rugby at Boston College. Her Brooklyn-born father was a Dodgers prospect. Mom was from Jersey. But her accent is somehow Midwest.

Starting in the early '90s as a stage manager and production grunt in Boston TV, Dawn found herself working alongside Greg Gumbel, Dick Stockton and Jim Kaat for CBS baseball coverage, migrated to Chicago, and then started working NFL sidelines here for FOX.
