@ScyanYT They increased investment in UEFN the last several months and made it a core focus for the next era of UNREAL engine.
It’s almost like… as I was saying… Fortnite BR doing good isn’t mutually exclusive with UEFN being invested in.
So the opposite of them realising anything
@GoonBrick1@Fortnite@Blizzard_Ent Na bro you get ingame and run around. You'll see.
Altho with a name like that... im guessing you've maybe set yourself some unrealistic expectations...
@SirDustyDirks Because right now the circle J sentiment is “Fortnite game bad, awful mess, UEFNs fault”.
You don’t need facts for people to say dumb stuff!
Honestly FANTASTIC question. And I really love you saying "idk where I stand myself" because thats whats missing too often these days.
I also dont fully know where I stand on a TON of aspects of this. There are lots of parts, like what you've mentioned which are REAL and valuable points, around the focus and 'identity' of Fortnite.
And thats part of my frustration, is that there are REAL things to discuss and protect for the benefit of Fortnite.
At the same time, there are also equally real facts that just flat out disprove the argument of Epic 'spending money' on UEFN instead of Fortnite. That its an expense.
If I buy a briefcase which has $10,000,000 inside it for $100,000. Did I 'waste $100,000' on the briefcase? OBVIOUSLY NOT.
Actually the opposite. If I DIDNT buy the briefcase then Id be MUCH poorer. This is literally the UEFN fortnite example. Right now Epic gives 13-14% of its total revenue to UEFN. But it accounts for 45-50% of players.
They literally almost 4x their money. Thats also more money to spend on Fortnite BR.
But the other part you said I really love. How to avoid Fortnite just becoming 'roblox' where the game has no identity and is just a sea of random crap like Roblox.
Thats a REALLY good point. And thats why the discussion should focus on that.
Basically, I think theres no question that in the long run, almost all games fizzle and die. And without UEFN that would happen to Fortnite BR. With UEFN it keeps new players coming in who then revisit/try BR, and keeps it alive. It also ensures they can keep funding BR.
Ultimately Epic has a good incentive there because from Battlepass to 'events' to a million other things, its super valuable. But making sure that stays the case is important. And if you really care about BR then thats what you focus your discussion on.
Like you, I also dont know all the answers to everything. I dont know exactly whats going to be right/wrong. But I do know that just lying about the 'cost' of UEFN and pretending its the problem for everything you're grumpy about isnt going to help anything.
I think thats why Its just so sad to see.
Brother I havnt made a video in a year. And I've made more than Ill ever need/ ever be able to make again. I actually have zero motivation around making new money. I also dont even have any maps that exist rn? The only maps I've ever made are classic deathruns.
Im just really passionate about both Fortnite, and game development. And bad faith arguments are only going to hurt both.
There is real criticism to be made about a million things. Parts of Epic. How Fortnite is developed. What maps the algorithm encourages.
But its just hilariously disrespectful when, while claiming to be outraged and saddened by so many developers losing their jobs at Epic, at the same time be pushing a narrative which he knows isnt truthful around the 'cost' of UEFN, which encourages a bunch of OTHER developers losing their jobs.
It would be like there being a bad Fortnite season, or bad Fortnite update, and me calling for all Fortnite developers to be fired?
There are so many jobs at stake both in UEFN and Fortnite, and so much creativity and passion on the line that its just disrespectful and disgusting to keep shouting stuff like this, while at the same time, still avoiding giving any explanation or answer to the point I keep making. Which is that UEFN brings in 45-50% of players. But costs 14% of the revenue. So in no way is Epic 'losing' money by it existing. They'd be poorer, with less money for Fortnite if it didnt.
But despite acknowledging that, and not having any denial of it, continues to just push the lie that it does.
Its just sad.
If someone really cares they dont base their perspective on lies.
If someone really cares about developers they dont lie to try and create a narrative that will cost their jobs.
If someone cares about Fortnite they actually take the time to inform themselves and make sure their perspective is correctly formed.
But maybe its all engagement farming which at this stage is the only explanation I can see. Most people are too insecure to admit when they've made an error in their opinion anyway.
