When Father Lui Santi was diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer in 2020, he found himself facing a journey he never expected. Throughout grueling rounds of chemotherapy, he began a simple practice that would eventually sustain him: journaling.
What started as a way to stay grounded—jotting down a phrase, a prayer, or a reflection—became a source of profound strength. His reflections evolved into the beautiful booklet, “Living with Cancer: Nourished by Faith, Hope and Apple Pie. Watch his powerful speech at: https://t.co/32PdGxVxcw

"Cancer didn't bring me to my knees; it brought me to my feet." - Michael Douglas (Actor & Cancer Survivor)
True strength isn't the absence of struggle; it is what happens after the blow lands. The idea that surviving a crucible can endow an individual with a deeper sense of strength, empathy, and a mobilized spirit they might never have discovered otherwise.

Probiotic rich, cultured foods are a great source of gut-healthy, living bacteria. Not only can these bacteria help boost our overall immune systems, but they also aid in digestion and may contribute to overall health.
1. In a large bowl, combine chia seeds, kefir, sweetener (if using), salt, and cinnamon by gently whisking.
2. Divide the mixture into single serving containers and refrigerate until the pudding sets. Once firm, top each pudding with fresh berries. For crunch, top with toasted nuts, hemp hearts, crisped rice, or high-protein granola.
Ingredients
60 g chia seeds
400 mL plain kefir
Pinch of salt
Pinch of cinnamon
Natural sweetener such as stevia, honey,
or agave, to taste (optional)
Handful of fresh berries
Bacteria in cultured, probiotic-rich foods partially “pre-digest” many complex starches and proteins.

When it comes to fighting stomach cancer, early awareness is one of our most powerful tools. Did you know that a common bacterial infection called H. pylori (Helicobacter pylori) lives in the stomach lining of many individuals?
While it often causes no symptoms at all, leaving H. pylori untreated can lead to stomach ulcers and is a known risk factor for developing stomach cancer. Understanding the signs, recognizing the risks, and knowing your testing options isn't just about proactive health—it’s how we collectively contribute to reducing cancer rates and bringing hope to families across Canada.
By staying informed, you are taking an active role in stomach cancer prevention and advocating for better digestive health in our communities.
Learn the Science & Protect Your Health
To support you on this journey, our partners at No Stomach for Cancer have developed an incredible, research-backed resource dedicated entirely to understanding this bacteria, its risks, and how it impacts long-term health.
Knowledge brings hope. Equip yourself with the facts and explore the latest research today:

It is impossible to like food if eating it causes immediate physical distress.
Managing the physical mechanics of eating after stomach surgery or treatment is essential to breaking the cycle of aversion.
1. Chew to a purée consistency:Slow down the intake.Chew every single bite until it is completely liquid before swallowing. This takes the mechanical burden off the stomach (or remaining digestive tract) and lets natural enzymes begin digestion early, reducing post-meal cramping.
2. Rest in an upright position:30 minutes post-meal.Never lie flat right after eating, as this can trigger reflux. Instead, recline slightly or sit comfortably upright for 30 minutes to allow gravity to assist the digestive process smoothly.
3. Track the:Focus on the positives.Keep a small log not just of symptoms, but of what tasted good. If a specific brand of almond butter or a certain puréed vegetable went down easily and tasted wonderful, celebrate it and keep it on rotation.
A Gentle Reminder for Caregivers: Be patient with the timeline. If they take two bites of something they used to love and say they can't eat any more, treat those two bites as a massive victory.
Removing the pressure to perform at the dinner table is often the fastest way to help them want to come back to it.
