It’s so hard for me to maintain friendships
Your dogged persistence is the only reason we’re still in touch, even though I do genuinely like you and care about you!
I’m such a cranky bastard
3) the only part of it that rings true is that the “punk teens” all live in mansions and the protagonist ends up going to Harvard. THAT PART, I believe is drawn directly from the filmmakers’ personal experiences
Steve got the new 4K of SLC Punk yesterday. Observations:
1) the poster used Comic Sans! Actual unironic Conic Sans for the cast member names and tagline
2) I always thought the movie was an embarrassingly brazen and subpar ripoff of Trainspotting. Watching it again for the first time in 20 years, my reaction was: “holy shit is this ever a brazen subpar ripoff of Trainspotting” spiced with some painful direct lifts from Goodfellas
the movie has an appealing “fuck it” vibe
Characters include a disaffected Tokyo tour guide, a semi-retarded pickpocket, a dirt-poor Chinese guy who gets stranded in Tokyo, a family living in a shack near a polluted river—somehow manages to be a very silly and fun movie
I just love Japan and Hong Kong and it’s rare to see a fun movie about people living on the skids in both cities
Even slum living looks insane in Tokyo and HK
