ICYMI: The @Senate_KE held its 5th #SenateMashinani proceedings at the Kilifi County Assembly this week — marking the first #SenateMashinani edition to be held in the Coastal Region.

During the week, the Senate considered several items of business, including the introduction of two Bills:

🔹 The Basic Education (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 3 of 2025) which seeks to formally integrate Alternative Provision of Basic Education and Training (APBET) institutions into Kenya’s formal education framework.

🔹 The Public Finance Management (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 17 of 2025) which seeks to address structural bottlenecks in Kenya’s public financial architecture by harmonising the disbursement of public funds.

The Senate also rejected the National Assembly’s amendments to The Kenya Sign Language Bill (Senate Bills No. 9 of 2023).

The Registration of Persons (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 52 of 2025) is read a first time in the National Assembly.

The Bill proposes amending the Registration of Persons Act to create a national program for registering secondary school students and issuing them free identification cards at school or a designated collection point.
