NAFDAC is strengthening surveillance and enforcement against the illegal importation, manufacture, distribution and sale of banned, unregistered and falsified pesticides in Nigeria.
Despite the completion of applicable phase-out periods for prohibited pesticide products, the Agency continues to uncover illegal supplies through enforcement operations.
NAFDAC is also strengthening collaboration with relevant government agencies to disrupt illicit supply chains and hold offenders accountable.

NAFDAC and the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC) have strengthened collaboration to enhance regulatory standards and capacity for clinical trial oversight, with a renewed focus on improving regulatory processes and advancing global recognition.
The five-day Clinical Trial Stakeholders Training is designed to build the capacity of professionals across the clinical research and regulatory landscape, promote common standards, and reinforce effective coordination between NAFDAC and NHREC in the oversight of clinical trials conducted in Nigeria.
NAFDAC DG Advocates Stronger Continental Cooperation on Food Safety
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, participated in the Third African Food Regulatory Authorities Forum (AFRAF) in Cairo, Egypt, where she called for stronger regulatory cooperation and coordination among African food regulatory authorities.
Speaking on the theme, “From Regional Economic Communities to a Continental Platform,” Prof. Adeyeye emphasised the need for a more coherent continental regulatory approach to address shared food safety challenges arising from interconnected food systems and supply chains, cross-border trade, food fraud, climate change and technological innovation. She noted that regulatory convergence should translate into tangible benefits through timely information sharing, stronger analytical capacity, virtual learning and harmonisation of regulatory requirements.
Prof. Adeyeye reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its national food control system while contributing to regional and continental efforts to advance food safety and protect public health. She highlighted the importance of sustained investment in regulatory capacity, laboratory infrastructure, digital technologies, human resources and effective surveillance systems, stressing that Africa must move from regulators working alongside one another to working with one another to build safe, resilient and effective food systems.
NAFDAC Seizes ₦300m Worth of Banned Alcoholic Drinks in Lagos
NAFDAC has shut down some distributors selling alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200 mL in Lagos State. The value of the seized products is estimated at ₦300 million.
Distributors and retailers were arrested during operations at Ile-Epo Market, while raids were also conducted at Ojuwoye Market, Mushin, and Oke-Arin Market, Lagos Island. Officials evacuated several cartons of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200 mL from these locations.
Investigations indicated that some distributors and retailers were hoarding the products amid increased demand and rising prices.
NAFDAC emphasises that the ban remains in force and warns distributors, retailers and other operators against the sale, distribution or hoarding of the prohibited products.

In her address, the DG highlighted progress made in strengthening local pharmaceutical manufacturing and called for greater support towards establishing vaccine manufacturing capacity in Nigeria.
The Expo also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to advance collaboration towards quality, GMP compliance, medicine security and a stronger pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem.
Yesterday, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, was the Guest of Honour at the 8th Nigeria Pharma Manufacturers' Expo, organised by @OfficialPMGMAN and PGE Expo PVT Limited in Lagos, where she called on international partners to support the establishment of vaccine manufacturing facilities in Nigeria, particularly fill-and-finish modular vaccine production.
She noted that closing this gap would enable NAFDAC to attain WHO Maturity Level 4 (ML4) and achieve Lot Release certification for vaccines, the only outstanding benchmark in the Agency's path to full global regulatory recognition.
Prof. Adeyeye highlighted the Agency's landmark achievements, including a 70% reduction in the importation of products under the 5+5 Policy and Ceiling Initiative, successful re-certification of WHO Maturity Level 3, the first in Africa, and the WHO pre-qualification of NAFDAC's Yaba laboratory in 2023.
She also commended President Tinubu's 2024 Executive Order for unlocking critical incentives for local pharmaceutical manufacturers.
The Chairman of PMG-MAN, Mr. Oluwatosi Jolayemi, commended Prof. Adeyeye for her steadfast leadership in driving GMP compliance and aligning Nigeria's pharmaceutical industry with international best practices, noting that NAFDAC's policies are already transforming the ecosystem.
Federal High Court Convicts Lagos Trader and Two Companies for Illegal Possession, Importation, and Distribution of Fake Drugs
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has convicted a Lagos-based trader, Elijah Chigbogu, and two companies associated with him, Prolife & Well Pharmaceutical Limited and God of Elijah Nigeria Limited, on a four-count charge of unlawful possession, display for sale, importation, and distribution of fake and unregistered drugs. The conviction followed a guilty plea entered by all three defendants before the presiding judge, Justice Musa Kakaki.
NAFDAC arraigned the defendants on charges relating to offences committed on or about 28th July 2025 at their respective business premises at No. 58, Obun Eko Street, Idumota, Lagos Island, and No. 29, Oluwale Loyole Street, Ikotun Egbe, Lagos.
The fake and unregistered drugs found in their possession and offered for sale included medicines for allergies, hypertension, diabetes, pain management and other conditions.
Following a review of the plea bargain agreement and the defendants' guilty plea, Justice Kakaki convicted all three defendants and sentenced the first defendant, Elijah Chigbogu, to a fine of ₦1.5 million.
NAFDAC reaffirms its commitment to pursuing all persons engaged in the manufacture, importation, distribution, and sale of fake and substandard regulated products, and will continue to prosecute such offences to the fullest extent of the law.

NAFDAC advises all stakeholders to:
• Exercise vigilance when procuring, distributing, dispensing, or using products marketed by Mofus Nigeria Ltd.
• Purchase medical products only from licensed and authorised suppliers.
• Maintain complete distribution records to facilitate traceability where necessary.
• Immediately report any suspected quality defects, adverse events, product authentication concerns, or regulatory irregularities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Healthcare facilities, distributors, pharmacists, and medicine vendors are advised to cooperate fully with any regulatory activities related to this investigation.
Following the compliance review, the NAFDAC team paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairperson of the commission, Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, at her office, where both parties further discussed issues from the session and opportunities for continued institutional engagement.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, and her team participated in a compliance review session with the Federal Character Commission (FCC) on 17 September 2026.
The session focused on NAFDAC’s compliance with @fccnigeria requirements, particularly in employment distribution, equitable infrastructure development, and resource allocation across the country.
The FCC further highlighted the importance of regional approaches to food safety infrastructure and raised concerns around food preservation practices and the growing challenge of illicit drug abuse, including the role of regulatory agencies in addressing the issue.
