What I find most notable about this chart is that at its peak the US nuclear buildout was actually faster than the current Chinese one. If we could do that 50+ years ago we should be able to do much better today.
@ForwardCarolina@ncsmokymtns You're exposing your ignorance to the physics and reality of the situation.
Solar is fantastic. But when the sun isn't shining, you need matching base power and batteries aren't going to cut it.
@ForwardCarolina@ncsmokymtns Solar is fine but absolutely requires (literally not an option) a matched base load capacity that can be dialed up and down quickly. There isn't the rare earth and decades required to make enough battery backup.
If you don't know this, you shouldn't be in the conversation.
You think gas pipelines are bad? Don’t stop there, you need to know about something even worse!
All across North Carolina, hundreds of miles of roads and highways are cruelly slicing through our precious countryside with 2-3 feet of asphalt and concrete, rammed through private land via eminent domain by for profit corporations and compliant state officials.
These concrete killing fields haul deadly fossil fuels from refineries in Texas and beyond, and guess what? They regularly explode into fiery pileups that kill thousands every year!
This is total win-win for the oil and gas industry which profits at every step in the chain. Their product is transported on the very roads that create endless demand for more of it! And it’s 100% tied to useless things consumers don’t even really need! Amazon deliveries, grocery store runs, and everyone commuting to the jobs where they provide for their families.
Highway builders and Big Auto are raking in billions, while you foot the bill through gas taxes and skyrocketing insurance.
We need to reject this reckless car-dependent future and go back to horses!
#BanHighways #ThinkOfTheChildren
You know I’m right, because I used all the right buzz words: “for profit corporations”, “Big Auto”, and the “the oil and gas industry”. Never mind that this is a critical part of our economy, creates countless jobs, and is only in demand because consumers are asking for more of it.
Sometimes taking Carolina Forward™ just means marching stubbornly backwards.
Who’s with me!
@ForwardCarolina Do you realize you just described the opposite of a loophole?
Our tax system is purposefully structured (by both parties) to encourage companies to invest instead of just distributing profits.
That's not a loophole being taken advantage of, that's literally the point.
How would removing students from the public school system and saving money cause schools to be at capacity?
Per pupil public school cost is $12,193 (https://t.co/Vr7hGE7nHc), while per pupil voucher cost is only ~$3,000-7,000 (https://t.co/aC3MhEMZit).
Each student that takes a voucher reduces crowding and saves the county money.
Conservatives have never said millionaires shouldn't be taxed.
They have said high enough taxes will cause corporations and the rich to leave, exorbitant taxes can slow productive effort and investment, leading to reduced tax revenue.
Do you ever feel guilty making such disingenuous and manipulative arguments, or do you just look in the mirror each morning and feel good about your small role in ruining political discourse?
@BethanyForTruth How does this affect anybody? Doesn't this only affect people who choose to pick up the separate E88 pump handle? And how could it affect people's gas mileage now?
"Don't maximize short-term profits, that's evil!"
"Okay, we'll plow all our profits back into the business to build long-term."
"You don't pay corporate tax, that's evil!"
Sneaky data manipulation.
What does politico mean by democrat or republic led? The governor and both senators are from the same party. Oddly specific no? NC and Kentucky both have Democratic governors and Republican Senators and both had recent natural disasters but they will not show up on this chart at all. It also means that Trump is punishing two states that voted for him (Arizona and Michigan) because they are “Democrat-led”. That seems like an odd thing to do.
So what happens if we look at the Biden era and define red vs blue states the way most people do, by who the state voted for president? Oh.
