Participants at the ongoing Regional Seminar for Judges of State High Courts in Lagos have been exposed to a series of insightful presentations that stimulated robust discussions on critical developments in Nigeria's electricity sector.
The seminar, organised by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has provided a platform for judicial officers to deepen their understanding of the legal, regulatory, and commercial issues shaping the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
On the second day of the seminar, Tuesday, 7 July 2026, NERC Commissioner, Corporate Services, Mr. Nathan Shatti, delivered a presentation titled "Metering Challenges in Nigeria and Government Interventions," highlighting ongoing efforts to accelerate access to electricity meters across the country.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Monday, 6 July 2026, held a regional seminar for judges of the Lagos State High Court in Lagos, aimed at strengthening judicial understanding of the evolving Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
In his opening address, the Chairman of NERC, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, said NERC has transferred electricity market oversight to 16 states, ushering in a new era of multi-level regulation. “The objective is to ensure that My Lords are familiar with the intricacies and technical nature of the power sector. Speaking at the opening session, the Head of Technical Regulation Division at NERC, Engr. NERC's Customer Protection Regulations (CPR) 2023 clearly state when Distribution Companies (DisCos) can access customer premises, disconnect electricity supply, and reconnect customers.
