What changes when learning moves beyond the classroom?

For 239 young people in the Abhijit Sen Rural Internship (ASRI), it means stepping into unfamiliar places, meeting communities and experiencing development challenges up close.

And the learning doesn’t stay in the field.

NFI mourns the passing of Ratna Sudarshan - researcher, feminist economist & institution builder.

A former NFI Board member (2008–14), she shaped the conversations and our world view on gender equity, inclusion & social justice. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family.

More recently, he has supported school-based nutri-gardens linking nutrition, sustainability, and education while reinforcing dignity of labour among children.

C.S. Awardee SK Riazuddin has spent over 25 years working at the grassroots in Birbhum, West Bengal across health, education, and community mobilisation.

From rebuilding a village school through collective effort to improving participation in immunisation programmes by working with local leaders, his work centres trust and community participation.

Her work also addresses child marriage, gender discrimination, and livelihoods showing how long-term, trust-based engagement can lead to dignity, access, and lasting community change.

For over 25 years, C.S. Awardee Shashi Ahirwar has been working with Sahariya Adivasi, Dalit, and marginalised labour communities in Madhya Pradesh. #CSAwards

Through her work with Bandhua Mukti Morcha, she has supported the release and rehabilitation of thousands of bonded labourers, while enabling access to welfare schemes, healthcare, and education.
