At the 52nd Annual European House Ambrosetti Forum, entitled "Intelligence on the World, Europe and Italy," in Cernobbio on the shore of Lake Como, NIAF Chairman John Calvelli and President & CEO Robert Allegrini presented Italian Foreign Minister @Antonio_Tajani with the first copy of the newly published book commissioned by NIAF, entitled "From Liberty to Legacy: 250 Years of Italy-U.S. Relations-Across the Atlantic and Through the Generations." The book was presented during the course of a wide-ranging meeting where NIAF leadership and Foreign Minister Tajani also discussed Italian Foreign Ministry support of NIAF's Ambassador Peter F. Secchia Voyage of Discovery Program.

BIG NEWS for Italian American families. 🇮🇹🇺🇸
Italy's highest court, the Court of Cassation, has just struck down the so-called "minor issue," the controversial rule that stripped thousands of jure sanguinis applicants of their rightful claim to Italian citizenship simply because a parent naturalized elsewhere while they were still a minor.
For over a century, that shouldn't have mattered. A 2024 administrative circular changed that, and families across the Italian American community paid the price.
NIAF remained dedicated to this, working directly with parliamentarians who represent Italians abroad, including Hon. Christian Di Sanzo, and alongside the Italian American Congressional Delegation (IACD) to keep this issue on the table in Rome and in Washington. Today's ruling is the outcome we've been advocating for.
If your family's citizenship claim was ever paused, denied, or discouraged because of the "minor issue," this changes things. There is now a clear legal path forward.

At an event at the Union League in Philadelphia on Thursday evening, the @niaforg honored Philadelphia Police Officer Andrea D’Elia, an Italian Army veteran and former paratrooper in the Italian special forces, who was shot in the face while answering a call in West Philadelphia on June 13.

During a diplomatic visit to Rome today, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani presented Secretary Rubio with a genealogical document tracing his family’s origins to Casale Monferrato, in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. The research was conducted through municipal and church archives by the Region of Piedmont and the city of Casale Monferrato.

Rubio called it “an incredible experience and one more reason to return soon, visit the region, and connect with the past.”
