📌Digital Postcode Delineation Model Validation in Akwa Ibom Nigeria
When we embarked on the journey to develop Nigeria’s National Digital Addressing and Digital Postcode System, we knew we were taking on one of the most ambitious digital infrastructure projects in our nation’s history. The scale of the task never discouraged us; it strengthened our resolve.
This initiative is a testament to the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, @officialABAT
whose #RenewedHope Agenda recognizes that true national development is built on strong institutions and modern digital infrastructure.
His unwavering commitment to innovation is laying the foundation for a Nigeria where every citizen, business, and community can participate fully in the digital economy.
The National Digital Addressing and #DigitalPostcode System is far more than a postcode. It is a platform for economic transformation.
It will unlock enormous opportunities for Nigerians, including:
📍 A logistics and e-commerce revolution through faster, more accurate deliveries.
📍 New businesses in digital mapping, PropTech and smart city solutions built by Nigerian innovators.
📍 Greater financial inclusion, enabling banks and fintechs to verify addresses, reduce fraud, and serve millions more Nigerians.
📍 Faster emergency response and improved national security, helping agencies locate people and places with precision.
📍 An AI-powered innovation ecosystem, where startups and businesses can build world-class products using trusted location intelligence.
This is how nations prepare for the future, not only by solving today’s challenges, but by building the infrastructure that creates tomorrow’s opportunities.
I also extend my sincere appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani @bosuntijani
whose unwavering support, strategic leadership, and commitment to Nigeria’s digital transformation has been instrumental in making this vision a reality.
Under President Tinubu’s leadership, we are not merely assigning addresses; we are unlocking opportunities, enabling innovation, strengthening governance, and laying the digital foundation upon which generations of Nigerians will build prosperity.
The future has an address, and Nigeria is defining it.
Every building deserves a unique identity.
The National Digital Postcode is helping make deliveries, navigation, and emergency response faster and more accurate by giving buildings a unique digital address.

Nigeria is set to launch a Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System in October as part of efforts to strengthen national security, improve public safety, enhance emergency response, and support the growth of the country’s digital economy.
The initiative, championed by the Nigerian Postal Service, is expected to provide trusted location intelligence that will allow people, assets, institutions, and services to be accurately identified and connected across the country.
I had the privilege of joining the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani @bosuntijani , and representatives of the Office of the National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu @NuhuRibadu at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Abuja for the unveiling of Nigeria’s National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System.
As Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, I am proud to be part of this landmark initiative, which will assign every location in Nigeria a unique, machine-readable digital address.
This is not merely a new postcode system. It is a critical piece of national infrastructure that will transform how we identify locations, deliver services, enhance security, and drive economic growth.
The impact on the lives of Nigerians will be far-reaching:
📌 Faster and more reliable deliveries, logistics, and e-commerce services.
📌 Improved emergency response capabilities, enabling first responders to locate and assist citizens more quickly.
📌 Enhanced security coordination through accurate location intelligence.
📌 Greater financial inclusion by providing individuals and businesses with verifiable addresses.
📌 Better planning and more efficient delivery of public services and development programmes.
This achievement reflects the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT , GCFR, to harnessing technology and innovation for national development.
As implementation advances, we at @NipostNgn remain committed to building a modern addressing system that supports a more connected, secure, and prosperous Nigeria for all.
The engagement brought together key government institutions, security agencies, regulators, and technical partners to align on the implementation of a unified national addressing framework that will support digital transformation, enhance security, improve emergency response, strengthen address verification, and enable more efficient public and private sector service delivery.
Speaking at the workshop, the Postmaster General/CEO of NIPOST, @tola_odeyemi emphasized that accurate and standardized addressing is fundamental to national development, effective governance, and a thriving digital economy. She noted that the success of the initiative will depend on strong stakeholder collaboration and widespread adoption.
The Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, @bosuntijani described the Alphanumeric Digital Postcode System as a critical component of Nigeria’s digital public infrastructure, designed to provide every location in the country with a unique and verifiable digital address.
The National Security Adviser, @NuhuRibadu represented by Major General Adamu Laka (Coordinator, NCTC), pledged full security sector support, describing the system as a strategic tool for security operations, emergency response, and location-based intelligence. Nigeria's digital addressing infrastructure is here.
As Nigeria accelerates its digital transformation agenda, the Digital Postcode System is poised to unlock greater efficiency in logistics, e-commerce, financial services, planning, security operations, and citizen service delivery.
The National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System will stand alongside Project BRIDGE, our 90,000km fibre infrastructure programme; NUCAP, which will connect over 20 million Nigerians through 3,700 telecommunications towers; the Nigeria Data Exchange; and our efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s AI ecosystem as one of the top five among many defining legacy initiatives of this administration that we have worked on over the last three years.
That is why I was pleased to join the Postmaster General/CEO of @NipostNgn, @tola_odeyemi, and stakeholders from across our security agencies for a workshop focused on the practical application of the digital postcode as a critical layer for security coordination and emergency response across Nigeria.
The Postcode System will assign every location in the country a unique, machine-readable, and geographically anchored digital address. Beyond improving mail delivery, it will strengthen emergency response, enhance national security operations, improve address verification, support more efficient logistics and e-commerce, and enable more effective delivery of public services.
As we continue to build the digital foundations of our economy, it is important that every person, business, and location can be accurately identified and connected within a modern digital ecosystem. We will continue engaging other stakeholder groups over the coming months, and I look forward to the official launch of the postcode system in October and to seeing the transformative impact it will have across our economy and society.
