@HerDreadsRock Anyone shocked that a 9yo is doing all this is disempowering their kids then wonders why they can't get a Saturday job or struggle in general as adults.
@omgsidewalks Orange juice from a carton
Ice cubes in a bag
Cable TV
Owning a new bike
Clothes that weren't second hand, from a catalogue or supermarket
Not having to share a room
@ProtagonistIvy The answer is let them cry. Every habit can be broken in 3 days. That's 3 days of saying no and having an upset child. They see it as cruel, but having a 5yo addicted to a screen or not knowing how to behave in public is way more problematic in the longterm.
They're 15 and 17 now. They do well at school, go out with friends, both work (15yo is a volunteer) and they're confident, happy, trusted, and capable. If you treat a kid like they can't, they'll believe it and fail. Don't take short cuts, it's not worth it in the long run.
This is the one thing I feel the most passionate about as a parent - if they can do it themselves, don't do it for them (just to avoid the confrontation or discomfort). You think you're being kind kowtowing to them but its disempowering. Let the kids feel proud of themselves.
In a new video, Jo Frost, aka Supernanny, warns that some modern parents are hindering their kids’ independence by choosing short-term convenience over teaching basic life skills.
The Instagram post featuring the video is filled with comments from teachers agreeing with her that it’s a growing concern.
@Jo_Frost
I had no pushchair for my child after the age of 2.5 years old as her sister needed it. She walked. My kids had a chore list from the age of 4. Dressed themselves as soon as thry could. They've always set their own alarms for school. Not from neglect but pride in their autonomy.
OK, I might step away from social media for a bit myself tonight. I can't keep arguing with people about why kids belong on hell sites like this one or whether Brits have any nice food in their entire country 😂😂😂
I'm on here reading posts from parents stressed that their kids won't know what to do with themselves with no social media. Jesus. If they're spending more time on TikTok than seeing friends, family, having hobbies, or reading and watching movies, then you've already failed.
No one says she has to leave the house 😂 TV, computer games, books, chatting on the phone, video calls and games on their phones aren't banned. You'd think they were being sent to the front line!
that’s the question isn’t it. what WILL she do? there are no youth clubs for her to attend. food, cinema tickets, any sort of third space activity is all too expensive. their parents are underpaid, saturday jobs don’t exist any more, children have truly been abandoned by the govt
Every time I see a man on here angry that under 16s won't legally be allowed to access social media, I wonder why it's so important to him that children should be allowed in adult spaces.
More steamy hockey players doing well on TV? Shocker 😂😍 Just goes to show how much of this industry is about luck and timing. I'm genuinely so happy for all the authors on this smutty sports train (and those of us who get to watch more of it)!
OK, this makes it official! If I buy a new notebook and pens that means a new book is in the making.
This one is:
A thriller
Dual POV
Very different to my other books
Gritty and tense
Today my agent gave it the green light and I have until late August to finish my first draft🫣
My husband isn't on any social media except LinkedIn and just declared he's streamlining his apps to 4. FOUR APPS!! This was our conversation. His comments 😂
I love London and I love food. I've eaten well in over 40 countries (including the US). I'm trying to ignore these stupid "London has shit food" posts but I'm biting every time, because it really doesn't. Where the hell are you guys eating? This is London food I've had lately...
Why is everyone so eager for kids to be in adult spaces? Look how complete strangers are talking to me. THAT'S the environment you want children in? There's a correlation between mental health decline and social media use. Say NO to your kids, 100%, but also make it illegal.
Good. Of course kids will find a way around this, and yes its hard to regulate, but being able to say to your 11yo "you're not going on TikTok, it's illegal" makes like easier. No child has the cognitive development to bypass or process harmful content. Tbh many adults don't!

We are banning social media access for under 16s.
These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life.
I just can’t let that go on anymore. So we’re giving children their childhoods back.
