Efforts to curb the production, distribution and consumption of illicit alcoholic brews are continuing in Laikipia County, as a multi-agency operation targets illegal brewing activities and the networks sustaining the trade.

In the latest phase of the crackdown, the multi-agency team destroyed 2,700 litres of kangara and an assortment of distilling apparatus used in the manufacture of illicit brews.

The action forms part of sustained operations targeting illegal brewing establishments and the movement of illicit alcoholic products in the country.

The National Police Service continues to support these efforts and encourages members of the public to provide information that may assist in identifying such illegal operations.

Police officers in Kisumu conducted a successful intelligence-led operation at a shop in the Kisumu Central Business District yesterday, 25 September 2026.

During the raid, officers apprehended two suspects linked to a syndicate involved in hacking and tampering with suspected stolen mobile phones.

A thorough search of the premises recovered a large assortment of items suspected to be proceeds of crime, including laptops, mobile phones and phone accessories.

The two suspects are currently in police custody at Kisumu Central Police Station awaiting arraignment. Meanwhile, all the recovered electronics have been secured as exhibits and are undergoing further forensic analysis.

Police officers from Kapsoya Police Station in Uasin Gishu County yesterday, 25 September 2026, arrested a suspect in a robbery with violence case, believed to be affiliated with a criminal gang known as Brothers 13 (B13).

The suspect was apprehended at the Roadblock area in Eldoret, following actionable intelligence and timely tip-offs from members of the public. He is linked to a series of violent robberies that have recently plagued residents of the Munyaka area.

During the arrest, the officers recovered a suspected stolen laptop and three mobile phones. Additionally, the suspect was found in possession of an assortment of crude weapons.

The suspect was escorted to Kapsoya Police Station, where he is currently being held awaiting arraignment, while the recovered items and crude weapons are also being kept at the same station as exhibits.

Police officers attached to Kahawa West Police Station in the Nairobi Region have intensified action against the production and distribution of illicit brews, as part of ongoing efforts to protect communities from substances that pose a threat to public safety and wellbeing.

The operation was conducted in the Soweto and Saa Mbaya areas, targeting premises suspected of being used for the production of illicit brews and the sale of drugs. The action resulted in the destruction of 2,600 litres of kangara and 120 litres of chang'aa, alongside various apparatus used in the production of the illicit brews.

The National Police Service remains focused on safeguarding communities through sustained enforcement against activities that facilitate crime. These operations also serve to deter criminal activity and reinforce the Service's commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting members of the public.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, today, 24 September 2026, joined the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, at the Bamburi Cement Grounds in Mombasa to witness the public destruction of a consignment of methamphetamine valued at KSh 8.2 billion, seized in October 2025.

During the exercise, CS Murkomen emphasised that illicit drugs pose an existential threat to the socio-economic fabric of the nation, undermining development and ruining lives.

He affirmed the considerable strength and success of multi-agency collaboration in the war against illicit drugs. The Cabinet Secretary further reiterated the Government's zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking cartels, manufacturers and financiers.

Speaking at the event, IG Douglas Kanja described the successful seizure and subsequent destruction of the drugs as a resounding victory against criminal enterprises attempting to use Kenya as a transit hub for drugs and narcotics.

He underscored the unwavering commitment of the National Police Service, working alongside other security agencies and international partners, to disrupting networks involved in the manufacture, trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs.

The Inspector General further extended his gratitude to multi-agency partners, state agencies and international development partners, attributing the milestone to robust information sharing, collaboration and mutual strategic support.

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mr. Mohamed Amin, assured the public that the police remain on high alert, emphasising that law enforcement agencies will relentlessly monitor, intercept and dismantle criminal syndicates to ensure that Kenya is neither a transit point nor a destination for illicit drug cartels.

Also present at today's exercise were DIG-KPS, Mr. Eliud Lagat; DIG-APS, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli; senior NPS officers; Government officials; Service Commanders; representatives from the Judiciary and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP); and development partners including dignitaries from US Embassy; the Country Attaché for the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Kenya Mr. Karl Ash, CA US Department of Justice Joddy Young and United States International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Director Ms. Maureen Mimnaugh.
