I came to the Aboriginal Student Voice Symposium to listen. Our students were clear what makes them feel known, embraced & culturally safe, & what great teaching & schools look like. Thanks to the @nswaecg & all 3 sectors for coming together to respect Aboriginal student voice.
Living Languages, Strong Futures. Great to be at La Perouse Public School this morning with Ray Ingrey from the NSW AECG, filming ahead of Aboriginal Languages Week in October & learning some Dharawal Language from the students.
Honoured to meet & hear Uncle Vic Chapman speak at our NAIDOC Week celebration as he was the first Aboriginal teacher & principal appointed to a NSW Public School. Thank you to our student hosts & performers who helped make the event so special. Happy #NAIDOC Week everyone!

Today is Public Education Day 📚💥
As the Minister for Education and Early Learning, I have the privilege of meeting all the incredible students in our public education system. I also get to see the inspiring things they go on to accomplish after they graduate. That's why I am passionate about strengthening our public education and ensuring all NSW kids have access to it.
I want to thank all our public school teachers and education staff for your hard work and dedication, we appreciate what you do. ❤️
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Peter Buckskin PSM FACE – a proud Narungga man and tireless advocate for First Nations education.
Professor Buckskin’s commitment to improving educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and educators was unwavering.
His legacy will live on in the many students, educators and communities he inspired, and in the education systems and reforms he helped shape.
The NSW AECG is saddened by the passing of Aunty Norma Sides who was an Aboriginal Education Officer at Darlington Public School in Redfern for 35 years (retiring in 2016). Aunty Norma impacted many generations in the inner city of Sydney through her caring and gentle nature.
Honoured to sign the mid-point of our partnership agreement alongside Ray Ingrey – President @nswaecg to foster culturally responsive & inclusive learning environments so Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander students see their identity & potential is valued.https://t.co/N3HYcHBZWs

Great to visit Matraville Sports High School alongside Ray Ingrey - President of the @nswaecg to meet Shallan Foster - Head Teacher, Aboriginal Learning & Engagement and her class who were studying for their exams. Thanks Nerida Walker, Jason Garrido & team for welcoming us today
It will also grow the Aboriginal VET workforce and improve cultural capability across the system.
The plan has been co-designed with the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and the Aboriginal Community Controlled Registered Training Organisations in NSW.
Yesterday, I joined the NSW Minister for Skills, TAFE and Tertiary Education, Steve Whan, Federal Minister for Skills and Training, Andrew Giles and leaders from the NSW Aboriginal Community Controlled Registered Training Organisations to announce a significant investment.
The NSW Closing the Gap Bilateral Implementation Plan under the National Skills Agreement will see a combined $100 million investment to support Aboriginal students through improved training quality, strengthen the work of ACCO and Aboriginal-owned training organisations.
Thank you so much to everyone who supported me through what's been a difficult seven months through my breast cancer journey.
I can't wait to get back to work for the people of NSW. 🩷
The World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education (WIPCE) has kicked off. WIPCE 2025 is being held in Aotearoa, with a traditional Māori welcome and Parade of Nations… What a strong representation Australia has here!
Recently, I travelled to visit Local AECGs in Western 2 Region. It was deadly catching up with Nyngan, Brewarrina and Bourke Local AECGs. Looking forward to coming back out soon.
Today kicks off NSW Aboriginal Languages Week. This years theme 'Let Our Voices Fly' is about hearing and speaking Language on Country, and exploring emerging tools so our languages can be spoken and heard for generations to come.
