“No human should have to pay for access to education or healthcare”
So proud of the amazing @BSMSMedSchool irp students and my team of supporting enthusiasts

Had a phenomenal day watching @DrRobgalloway sculpt the new human factors course for @UHSussex - amazing work, mdt and very collaborative.
Also made me realise I still can’t count and where sensory inputs fail or are fooled - thank you Rob
CCO nurses Niki & Freya showing off our new medical emergency proformas! Created by our colleague Annie, these forms are now the @UHSussex standard in documentation. In use across all 7 sites, these forms now ensure all patients receive a consistent level of care at a MET call!
@MohamedAGheith@Eagle4kw I think the most important thing is what identity the individual accepts - I usually say I’m partially sighted, mad as a bag of frogs and physically showing signs of wear.
I have friends who identify as autistic as it’s the lens through which they see the world
So proud of what Josh has achieved supporting eFONA training at in house atls courses and anaesthetic training days.
Even prouder of his contributions at @dasairway@UHSussex ACRM,
@ASPiHUK SECEM
My thanks to @myuhsussex@drsalwamalik and @smotslive for helping his goodSam work

@sherlock_hulmes 1. Take a break and do something completely different and out of your comfort Zone
2. Volunteer - try st John - hear a different set of stories
3. Help someone else - by helping lift someone else you will lift yourself
4. Rimworld - see what story comes
5. Ask for help
The first part of solving a problem is being aware of it
The second is owning it
The third is meaningful action
I’ve always been proud of when I’ve had the courage to speak up - and ashamed of the times I haven’t
Most of the time - once you speak you’ll find you’re not alone
It's completely normal to feel hesitant about voicing your thoughts or concerns. Remember that speaking up is a courageous act, and your voice matters #ftsu#speakup
@AvivaUK The next stage of this process is acting on that feedback - I hope when appropriate changes are made someone from aviva will add an addendum to this thread to highlight change in practice
Dear
@avivaplc
Never have I felt so disabled as trying to talk to a real person through your web of chat bots and automated phone answering services
Absolutely appalling experience and still didn’t manage to talk to a human
#disgustedandfrustrated
@AvivaUK I have finally talked to a lovely man called Jacob from home insurance - he was a hero - he is what @avivaplc should aspire to in terms of customer service
My wife had to get us past the barriers
#dobetter
Please take this feedback - your disabled customers deserve better
@AvivaUK Or at least an option on your “chatbot” to direct to a human operator
Or when engaged with a human on the “live chat” system and ask to call and talk that someone will actually read and understand that
@AvivaUK What I’d like is a phone number to talk to an actual human transparent on your webpage (under the “contact us tab”) for those of us who are disabled
- almost as though this courtesy to disabled customers would be enshrined in some form of law
Friday's @UHSussex Disability Awareness conference hosted by the Disabled Staff Network (Chair, Marce left) included informative speakers and breakout sessions. Emma (right) shared her journey as a person living and working with disability. #BreakingFTSUBarriers@TheGuardian_S
A busy morning but 💯 % worth it. These small things have a huge impact. So glad to be able to offer this level of support to our new international staff when they arrive.

Finally The 195-year-old Barry Building, ? The oldest acute hospital building still in use in England, is being demolished
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat its mistakes
Could the new building be the “James Barry” building?
#forthe5%
I’ve always been fascinated by James Barry since I read a medical history book that outlined Barry’s amazing achievements - especially when I heard that they had an altercation with Florence Nightingale…
https://t.co/00e7cR3aej
But the Barry building was named after Charles 🤦♂️
I guess finally it’s about fairness and recognition of service
It’s not about diminishing FN’s legacy - but there is room for Barry too
It’s easy to ignore eccentrics - but often it is the 5% outside “accepted norms” who change the world
Or - “have a different point of view”
