Tang Wing visitors are welcomed by a scene from the toppling of the King George III statue after the Declaration of Independence was read aloud to troops. The Bowling Green fence built to protect the statue survived and was designated a New York City landmark in 1970.
LPC joined New York Historical, elected officials, and our fellow city agencies to celebrate the opening of the new Tang Wing for American Democracy. Approved by LPC in 2021, the new wing will serve as the future home of the American LGBTQ+ Museum starting next year.
