Introducing NYC Common Sense, a new nonprofit dedicated to making sure City Hall works for every New Yorker.
Led by Jim Walden, former federal prosecutor and 2025 mayoral candidate, NYC Common Sense will champion policies that actually work and ensure promises made are promises kept.
Because big promises require real accountability. Visit our website at https://t.co/QgAabHfGyB.
New: The cost-of-living crisis continues to be crushing.
Nearly half of a sample of New York City voters surveyed in a new poll said they are likely to leave the five boroughs within the next five years due to the cost of living.

Ratepayers have a right to know the components of their bills, especially when property taxes are a significant driver of increasing costs. If City Hall truly wants to help New Yorkers struggling with sky-high electric bills, it should focus on what it can control, like lowering property taxes instead of looking to Albany to solve its problems.

"It might be time to call 911 on the Mamdani administration to hold it accountable and provide New Yorkers with the clear, honest, and forthright government they deserve"

More ink on the administration's "haphazard rollout".
"So far, more than half of property owners looking to shield themselves from the surcharge"

"You have not advanced any new policies or laws to address long-standing, systemic corruption risks, and have done little to restore the strength of the city’s internal watchdogs"

"This greatly diminished pool of eligible properties raises questions about Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s repeated claim that the second home surcharge will raise $500 million to help close the city’s projected $5 billion budget gap."

This is the kryptonite for the socialists and Mayor Mamdani.
DSA abides by a strict principle: decisions and priorities are set from the bottom up. The litmus test is always, "Are the people affected the ones deciding?" When over 1,000 tenants petition against the move, NYC DSA would be hypocritical, given all their past fights, not to side with residents.
Socialists oppose any concentration of power. No one person gets to override the collective, not even a socialist elected to City Hall.
Zohran practiced this as a state lawmaker. He has said he follows DSA's priorities through their working groups and committees.
So now NYC DSA is at odds with its own champion, over the future of public housing
Gov. Josh Shapiro backs a bill that would open Pennsylvania’s primary elections to unaffiliated voters.
HB 280, authored by state Rep. Jared Solomon, passed the state House by a 115-88 vote on Tuesday.
“I support it,” Shapiro told me on Saturday. https://t.co/Dvgt7fj4EK
"This is not a New York City-specific question"
The mayor is sidestepping one of the most important issues of our time, one that will have an impact on New York's businesses, residents, and economy, but has no problem talking about affairs in other countries and political races in other states.
