Authorities in Abu Dhabi responded to a fire incident that broke out in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region, caused by a drone strike. No injuries were reported, and there was no impact on radiological safety levels.
All precautionary measures have been taken, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) confirmed that the fire did not affect the safety of the power plant or the readiness of its essential systems, and that all units are operating as normal.

New Zealand condemns Iran’s latest attacks on the United Arab Emirates.
Iran’s actions violate the ceasefire and are unhelpful for peace negotiations.
We reiterate the urgent need for de-escalation. Iran must honour its commitment to the ceasefire and respect international law, including the protections afforded to civilians and civilian infrastructure.
We urge Iran to prioritise political agreement on a permanent solution to end this crisis. The conflict will not be resolved through drones and missiles.

Over the past two months, we’ve stayed focused on keeping the world moving. With #UAE airspace now fully restored, we are scaling up operations, increasing flight movements in line with available regional routing capacity and enabling airlines to progressively restore their schedules.
Despite regional #airspace disruption, we’ve remained operational and adaptable by supporting the safe journey of more than 6 million guests, over 32,000 aircraft movements, and more than 213,000 tonnes of essential cargo through @DXB and DWC airports.
Operating under constantly changing conditions requires real-time coordination across the entire oneDXB airport community.
From airlines to ground teams, our partners and stakeholders have worked together to ensure safe, stable and consistent operations, ensuring the safety and welfare of our passengers at every stage of the journey. This period has reinforced the strength and resilience of our network, and our ability to respond quickly in a complex operating environment. As capacity returns, we are ready. Demand for travel through #Dubai remains strong, and we are moving quickly to support the next phase of growth.

A valuable exchange today between Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Christopher Luxon and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, reaffirming New Zealand’s strong partnership and solidarity with the UAE and our shared commitment to freedom of navigation and regional stability 🇦🇪 🇳🇿
Safe passage for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is vital if we are to restore the flow of fuel and reduce prices.
So, it was good to compare notes again tonight with His Highness, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, President of the United Arab Emirates, and to express NZ’s solidarity with the UAE.
Together, the UAE and New Zealand are committed to freedom of navigation, not just in the Gulf but around the world.
This Anzac Day, staff at the New Zealand and Australian Embassies came together at dawn to honour all those who have served. We hope all New Zealanders and Australians in the UAE were able to take a moment to reflect. We look forward to holding our traditional public service again next year. We will remember them.
The Ministry of Education announces the resumption of in-person learning for all enrolled children, students, educational staff, and administrative staff in public and private nurseries, kindergartens, and schools effective Monday, 20 April 2026.
The 🇳🇿 and 🇦🇺 missions in the UAE will not be holding their traditional ANZAC Day commemoration services in Abu Dhabi or Dubai this year. We encourage Kiwis and Australians residing in the UAE to #StandAtDawn on ANZAC Day and remember those who served.
