'We gave Africa a voice at the UN'. In an exclusive interview to @bbcafrica's @Mss_Deeynah , Amina Mohammed tells what it has been like to be an African woman in one of the world's leading diplomatic roles.
From Adi Keyh to the global stage, Rozina Mebrahtom’s recognition among @FAO’s 100 Women Heroes is a powerful celebration of #Eritrea’s women farmers, their knowledge, resilience and innovation, and the vital role they play in shaping sustainable food systems. #IYWF2026
A first-of-its-kind #AI panel, connecting local expertise with the ITU Regional Director around one vital question: how can AI advance #Eritrea’s development priorities responsibly?
A fruitful, forward-looking dialogue grounded in local realities, knowledge & voices.
UN in #Eritrea welcomes @UNHabitat as we deepen collaboration on housing, human settlements and spatial planning. Grounded in national priorities and local realities, the engagement provides an opportunity to identify pathways towards sustainable urban development.
Accessible, quality housing that respects the beauty of Asmara's built environment will further sustainable development. Thanks to @UNHABITAT for their visit and pleasure to meet jointly with the Minister of Public Works to look at concrete partnerships. #Eritrea
My warmest congratulations to Navi Pillay, former @UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, on the well deserved award of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Her life’s work is a testament to courage and conviction, and a powerful reminder that lasting peace rests on human rights and the rule of law.
Navi, you have given pride to the women of Africa and the world and we stand on your shoulders.🙏🏽
🚴 In Madrid this week, our National Goodwill Ambassador @GrmayeBiniam met @UNDP Administrator @alexanderdecroo — on two wheels.
A conversation on teamwork, leadership, and the role young people play in #ClimateAction.
Biniam champions climate action and youth empowerment in Eritrea, where communities in the countryside are adapting to a changing landscape.
Full conversation coming soon 🔜 stay tuned!
#Eritrea 🇪🇷
A special moment for the cycling fan in me: meeting @GrmayeBiniam.
A history-maker on the bike, Biniam is now @UNDPEritrea’s National Goodwill Ambassador for climate action and youth empowerment.
Great conversation about teamwork, leadership and inspiring the next generation.
“My only weapon is the way I speak, and my voice.”
@Fawziakoofi77 has paid a heavy price for refusing to stay silent.

Today is #WorldTourismDay!
We went into the streets of Asmara to ask one simple question:
Why should people visit Eritrea 🇪🇷?
Here’s what people had to say.
Your turn: why should someone visit #Eritrea?

Met with Yemeni civil society leaders and peacebuilders Noora Al-Jarwi and Samah Al-Shaghadri, joined by @SofiaCalltorp of @UN_Women. They described an increasingly worrying situation for women and girls in #Yemen. Local organisations are on the front line of every humanitarian response, and where the resources need to follow.
Discussed Afghanistan, Syria and other humanitarian priorities with HH Prince Rahim Aga Khan V of @AKF_Global at #UNGA.
I saw @akdn’s impact firsthand in Gilgit Baltistan in July, where communities are better prepared for likely floods.
On the margins of the #UNGA81, I met with Eritrea’s Foreign Minister Osman Saleh. We discussed the peace and security situation in the Horn of Africa region and the need to advance peace through dialogue.
Wonderful catching up in Geneva with longtime friend and colleague @MRensvik - Norway’s Deputy Permanent Representative, and true champion of multilateralism, humanitarian action, and women’s rights.
I'm proud to report that for the first time in history, the @UN has achieved gender parity across all senior leadership, headquarters & professional staff.
We removed barriers, challenged assumptions & refused to accept that power must look as it always has. And we never compromised on quality & competence.
If the UN can do it, so can governments, parliaments & businesses everywhere.
Stronger systems and partnerships can help deliver lasting results for children in Eritrea. Glad to have joined this important discussion with the UN Country Team and fellow Regional Directors. Together, we can help turn ambition into stronger results for every child.
.@UNReliefChief Tom Fletcher tells me he’s been “shaking down” foreign ministers, buttonholing them with his top 10 list of urgent commitments to save lives globally. “If we get these ten agreements, we can reach 11 million people this year who will otherwise die,” he tells me.
UN Team in #Eritrea met w/ Africa Regional Directors to present our next five-year partnership framework with Eritrea. Building on hard-won development gains, we explored how partnerships, expertise and financing can help unlock the country's next chapter of opportunity & growth.
Around the world, women & girls continue to face discrimination, violence & abuse.
Their rights are rolled back, their voices silenced, their bodies turned into battlegrounds & their freedoms treated as bargaining chips.
This is an outrage & a profound waste for humanity.
