What exactly is the "discredited pseudoscience" that Nathan Cofnas argues for? Here are the main claims he's made that have offended people:

(1) Cofnas believes there are differences in average measured intelligence between population groups: Mainstream science fully agrees with him.

(2) Cofnas believes that recent human evolution outside Africa has increased human intelligence: Mainstream population genetics now mostly agrees with him.

(3) Cofnas believes that the measured differences in intelligence between population groups are at least partially due to genetic differences between those groups: Although this claim remains scientifically disputed and unresolved, the most recent published survey of intelligence scientists found that most agree with him.

The research that has been most often used to support a genetic explanation — and which has been published in established peer-reviewed scientific journals — is hardly pseudoscientific. You may not believe that it's convincing, but that's quite another thing than saying it's "pseudoscientific."

The people writing about Cofnas either know this or do not care to know it.

The vast majority of the public reading about Cofnas has no idea of the current status of intelligence research because its "dangerous" findings are rarely reported in the non-scientific media, and most people treat the subject as too icky to take the time to investigate.

J.K. Rowling vs Nathan Cofnas: race realism is a taboo too far for some brave, truth-telling gender realists.

Nathan Cofnas is the race realist academic who was instrumental in exposing Jason Arday as a non-realist academic. J.K. Rowling just called him "racist" on Twitter.

I'm a big fan of J.K. Rowling. She's resolute in her resistance to gender ideology even though it hurts her financially, subjects her to vitriol and puts her at risk. You might think J.K. Rowling would have some solidarity with another person who's been hauled over the coals for promoting scientific realism over cultural norms, but no. He's t̶r̶a̶n̶s̶p̶h̶o̶b̶i̶c̶ "racist".

This exposes her blind spot. Gender ideology is where her realism stops. When it comes to race realism, she turns into Owen Jones.

Which is a shame. I've seen other TERFs stand up for, if not race realism, then at least nationalism. There are parallels between the way that men are allowed to "identify" as women and the way that Rwandan men are allowed to identify as Welsh choirboys.

But when it comes to Cofnas, many TERFs are saying that human sex is dimorphic, whereas race is nebulous and hard to define.

Nebulous? Maybe. But if I'm walking around London, half the time I can't tell if a person is a man or a woman. But I immediately know if I'm at Wimbledon or if I'm at the Notting Hill Carnival. If a big bunch of black "yoot" gets on my train carriage, I can tell with my eyes shut. If I drive through a Muslim area, there are usually a few tell-tale signs (written in Urdu).

The ratio of males to females is pretty constant around the world, but there are huge discrepancies in what those areas are like. Calcutta and Lagos are not like Durham or Bergen. I suspect there may be factors other than masculinity and femininity guiding behaviour at the population level.

I understand that it's a taboo with the potential to destroy careers, and I also understand that there are easy get-outs. In-group variance is greater than inter-group variance. Any differences at the group level don't mean that an individual will have any particular traits. I firmly believe that a man from the Horn of Africa can be intelligent and civilised, and I look forward to science proving me correct by one day finding one who is.

But the weakness of the attacks on Nathan Cofnas is revealing. Nick Ferrari could only accuse him of "causing distress to a black student". This, in itself, was seen as reason enough to shut down anything that Nathan Cofnas might say.

But if we're going to end all academic work that might cause distress, why not scrap the theory of evolution? It distresses creationists. Perhaps the cardinals were correct to condemn Galileo for presenting a heliocentric model, because the heliocentric model had distressed them?

Academia's credibility has taken a beating over the last couple of months, but as the taboos around race realism evaporate, Cofnas may end up resurrecting it - and finally be appointed "Head of Eugenics & Race Science at Harvard".

"Ghent argues that Cofnas’s criticism of Arday as “mentally disabled” and a "worthless scholar" was “an intentional and serious disturbance of the peace” that may violate “the Belgian Criminal Code.” It is ludicrous (and dangerous) to suggest that accurately accusing a scholar of plagiarism and expressing mean opinions could ever be considered a crime."

In 1860 you would have written an article called "Shut Up about Evolution" with exactly the same arguments you make about race and IQ. But Darwin beat the taboo with facts and logic.

Today, there is a "mild taboo" on telling people that their religion is wrong. If a corn farmer in Iowa believes that Adam and Eve hunted dinosaurs, we don't make an issue out of it because it doesn't matter. 99% of the elites are Darwinians, and they are the ones who set the cultural agenda: government grants support research on evolution, textbooks say that Darwin was right, etc.

The race taboo can be dealt with in the same way as the evolution taboo. Make HBD common knowledge among the elites, and don't shove it down everyone else's throat. That's the Hereditarian Revolution and the only way to save our civilization.

Nathan Cofnas has the (so-far) best definition of woke. My favourite go-to definition was this: the making-sacred of previously marginalised groups (@epkaufm, who calls it/called it a moral or emotional regime).

That's obviously correct, but @nathancofnas' version adds in a motivation: it's what happens when you take the equality thesis seriously, but you still end up with group-level disparities in outcomes. Wokeism is the result of forcing the equality thesis and then looking for ever-more subtle causes to explain the different outcomes once all the more obvious discriminations have been taken care of.

My redpilling happened when I was working in science research funding for the European Commission, and I had to help communicate to the public that they were sexist because there were fewer women in STEM fields. This was after all of the obvious legal barriers to women choosing STEM careers had been removed, and the norm-changing campaigns had been happening for most of my life.

More than half of university students were female, and almost everyone in the meetings about sexism were women. It was a hunt for invisible causes, without ever considering that personal choice or abilities (fewer female spergs) could have anything to do with it. That could never be even said aloud.

Nathan Cofnas was first fired by Cambridge for writing about race and IQ. We talk about race constantly, but somehow we can't discuss the actual differences.

American conservatives just want merit, and Cambridge would rather pretend race and IQ don't exist.
