“Almal wat die see lief het, klim op die vissers se boot!” resounded outside the Western Cape High Court as a legal battle regarding the decision to grant authorisation to TGS Geophysical Company to conduct seismic surveys off South Africa’s coastline, kicked off this morning.
@TheGreenConnect The case aims to promote government accountability, ensure proper decision-making and to protect the ocean. The organisations argue that the State approved a potentially harmful project without considering environmental, social and economic impacts on coastal communities.

As the DWOB North court case continued in Cape Town on Monday 23 March 2026 – communities and organisations in the Eastern Cape protested in solidarity.
@TheGreenConnect The case continues tomorrow at the court in Cape Town. We wish to thank @TheGreenConnect and the Aukotowa Primary Fishing Cooperative, and all the supporters outside the court today!
Today in the Western Cape High Court in SA, fishers & civil society came together to defend their ocean heritage & livelihoods, and to call for better decision-making from government when it comes to oil and gas exploration off the coastline. #teepsaDWOB@TheGreenConnect
@TheGreenConnect 4. Lastly, that this project (and others like it) go against the international commitments the country has made to stop using fossil fuels and address #climatechange. This project also goes against government's own energy planning. #teepsaDWOB
@TheGreenConnect 2. The risks to the natural environment from ultra-deep drilling (2000 metres!) and reliance on un-tested plans in the event of a well blowout. 3. The coastal community, including marine life, the people on the shoreline, but also the whole of SA, were not properly considered.
