Congratulations to Nima Machouf and Pierre Céré who were nominated last night as our candidates in the federal ridings of Laurier–Sainte-Marie and in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie!
Across Quebec, there's a progressive majority looking for leaders who will make life more affordable, strengthen public health care, protect the environment, and stand against war and militarism.
Nima and Pierre are ready to be those leaders. Both have deep roots in Quebec's progressive movements and have spent their lives fighting for fairness and justice. We are proud to have them carrying the NDP banner in the upcoming by-elections.

Trump is fuelling a new McCarthyism that is both delusional and dangerous. It’s clearly intended to crack down on Americans who are resisting his anti-democratic agenda: including deadly ICE raids and endless wars of aggression. It’s also a serious escalation of violent authoritarianism from our next door neighbour.
Canada’s participation in this spectacle puts progressive Canadians at real risk. It’s outrageous, and the Prime Minister owes Canadians an explanation as to why he’s involving our country in this ugly episode.

Climate change is not some far-off threat. It is here. It is happening.
And it is caused by the burning of fossil fuels that the Liberal government is pouring billions of public money into expanding.
This is the crisis we cannot afford to ignore.
Instead of doubling down on climate-wrecking pipelines, we can invest in the economy of tomorrow. We can create a million good-paying jobs building big things that will protect the people and the places that we love. We can lower energy bills and transform Canada into a renewable energy superpower.
There is still time to stave off the worst effects of climate change. But only if our government summons the courage to act.
Incredibly brazen for the Prime Minister to boast about the “lasting benefits” of expanding fossil fuel production on a day like today.
Record-breaking heatwaves. Toxic smoke engulfing cities and towns. Out of control wildfires forcing entire communities to evacuate.
This government is spending billions of dollars in public money to expand the very industry that’s causing climate breakdown — at a moment when renewables are cheaper and more available than ever before.
No more climate-wrecking corporate welfare. We need a government that protects the people and places we love.
Sometimes you read something that tells you what you already know…but you feel as if for the first time.
I read this searing piece through hot tears of rage and renewed determination.
Canada should be using every tool we have - legal, diplomatic, economic - to rein in and isolate this rogue state.
It should be a national scandal that we aren’t.

Did you know, the Liberal government’s Bill C-37 is a return to Stephen Harper’s anti-Indigenous policies that fueled the Idle No More movement. Just like in the Conservatives’ Bill S-8, Bill C-37 was not developed in consultation with First Nations and is in clear violation of Indigenous rights that are confirmed in the Canadian Constitution, that includes international laws and conventions we've signed on to.
If the government does not amend Bill C-37 to uphold First Nations’ human right to clean water, we must all join together to send a clear message to Carney's Liberal government – we will not stay silent in the face of such blatant discrimination. Everyone should have the right to clean drinking water, especially children, families and all individuals across Canada.
In one of the wealthiest countries in the world, First Nations have had to go to court to fight for the right to safe drinking water.
Instead of simply guaranteeing this basic right, the Liberals would rather shovel public money into fighting First Nations in court — while tabling new legislation that fails to uphold the human right to clean drinking water.
This is shameful. It’s well past time to guarantee the human right to safe, clean drinking water for every community, once and for all.

“We shouldn’t be rushing in the AI arms race. We should be rushing to put real guardrails on the technology,” Avi Lewis told the Toronto Star.
The Carney government has gone all in on AI, cozying up to Big Tech without putting in place the protections we need for our jobs, privacy, or water and energy resources.
New Democrats are calling for a humans-first AI strategy — including a pause on new AI data centres until our regulatory framework catches up to this world-changing technology.
