I have a couple college wrestling takes I need to throw out.
(1) there should be a weight class between 197 and 285.
(2) they only need to rank 10-15 teams, not 25
Just 15.8 million viewers for Miami-Ole Miss. It was a great game, but this is a brutally awful number. College football is the only sport that posts lower final four playoff viewership than it does for regular season games. Must be addressed. Audience isn’t growing.
In the mid 90s my dad played with the “Ghost Players” on a Japanese tour. These were extras and locals from The Field of Dreams movie who have kept the team going. My dad wasn’t in the movie, but the Japanese people treated him like he was a celebrity.
What we lost thanks to the expanded playoff vs. what we gained…
Lost:
-Meaningful SEC/Big 10 title games
-Notre Dame/USC
-Coaches not being fired mid-year/leaving before postseason
Gained:
-James Madison vs. Oregon
-Tulane vs. Ole Miss (rematch!)
-3-loss Bama making final 8
Notre Dame dropped 2 CFP ranking spots following a 49-20 win at Stanford and no 13th game.
Alabama gained 1 spot following a 27-20 win at Auburn and a 28-7 loss to Georgia.
ND was penalized for a 27-24 loss at Miami in Week 1.
Bama's 31-17 loss to FSU in Week 1 didn't matter.
As a casual Notre Dame fan, my gut tells me they should be below Miami in the rankings given they lost to them and have the same record with similar schedules. But I still hope they get in for my own personal interest in the CFP and my grandpa’s sake.
@samuelT19 I guess I don’t see why 4th and 8th isn’t reasonable. Iowa and Nebraska played one score games against teams currently 7th and 8th in the Big 12.
