Today I’m excited to announce the launch of my latest data-driven documentary, The Plea.
Three years in the making, it tells the story of the first vaccine and the global effort to eradicate smallpox.

So many are asking profound questions about AI. Leave it to @Radiolab (@stevenstrogatz & @SorenWheeler) to bring it home for me:

Ravishing new short film by Neil Halloran of one of humanity's greatest accomplishments: Defeating a Virus That Killed Half a Billion People – The Plea https://t.co/IyJsuRAKwh via @YouTube
45 years ago, the world finally succeeded in eradicating smallpox, a disease which killed more than all direct casualties of war ever.
@neilhalloran has a moving new short film about it —

Absolutely the best video to explain the brutal reality of WWII. It is also the best showcase of the power of data motion graphics.
@patriciogv Love your work. I'm looking for some quick guidance on generating a certain kind of noise for my current doc. Are you avail for consulting by chance? I can post the question here if that helps.
Performing my annual Memorial Day ritual of watching maybe my favourite video on the internet. Never loses its simple power to move.
Thank you @neilhalloran https://t.co/MScWGNbaCL
@anneapplebaum Ignoring Musk, I would love to hear your thoughts on some counters to this. E.g. Putin (and any successor) will have learned a devastating lesson about Russia’s ability to successfully invade Ukraine. This deterrence can be further established if allies help bolster defenses.
@ProfBrianCox It sounds like he is changing course and becoming more divisive b/c being less so wasn’t working. My understanding is that less divisive politicians (1) get no love from other side anyway and (2) disappoint their own who want a fighter. Isn’t it our job to promote less 1 & 2?
@AlbertoCairo@FILWD@NElmqvist Alberto - In the case of transphobia, do think there are people here who are genuinely concerned and coming from a good place (ie people first) but are just wrong on the facts? I hope you don’t think I’m being argumentative - so many of us are wrestling with how to have dialogue.
A very cool animation of atmospheric CO₂ for the year 2021:
* Fossil fuels, orange
* Burning biomass, red
* Land ecosystems, green
* Ocean, blue
For a well-mixed GHG, it takes some time for CO₂ to distribute globally from the sources in the North!

@maartenzam@sharoz@jwoLondon@Elijah_Meeks But, I mean, aren’t we supporting the M man every time we use this site? Sure the blue check is more so, but …. that’s some hard core shaming for a matter of degree
