@nickluck I am always told that the Derby is the true test of the Thoroughbred, but after Saturday the Regulator has deceided that is NOT the case now. Part of the challenge is a strong temperament, and Benny failed that, no one else did anything wrong. The Regulator has rewarded weakness!
SERIOUSLY. Are we living in a parallel universe?
OpenAI paused its UK data centre project last month. Energy too expensive. Too hostile. Even for them. Starmer found out this morning apparently.
Because he spent today at a tech conference selling Britain's AI future. The same week OpenAI quietly walked away from it. He didn't mention that bit.
UK electricity prices 125% above the EU average. Four times higher than the United States. Highest in Europe. Data centres consume 5.8% of national electricity and rising. Your energy bills going UP because of it.
The Unilever factory employed hundreds of Warrington families for 130 years. Closed 2021. 116 job losses. The data centre replacing it? 20 to 50 permanent jobs. No legal obligation to create even those. THREE permanent AI job vacancies in Warrington in 2025. Three. Specialist roles brought in on fast tracked visas. Not for local kids.
Manufacturing creates thousands of jobs. Data centres create dozens. 8 million UK jobs at risk from AI. UK hit harder than any other major economy.
Your pension redirected by ministers into the tech companies building those data centres. Without your consent. Funding the machine that's replacing you.
And while he stood on that stage. 1,200 children safeguarded from grooming gangs every single month. Child abuse conviction data buried for years.
The world's biggest AI company just walked away from Britain because it couldn't afford to run here.
And he called that confidence.
@zilzal89@amdracing At least with Christmas Day winning yesterday the nonsensical myth that a placed horse in the Dante cannot win the Derby should never be mentioned again!
@zilzal89 It is a bit tricky, but surprised he moved it to the right towards the stand side when his dangers were drawn low. Maybe he could not see a run from where he was, but he was drawn in 3 and ended up on the s/s rail. Last year he was drawn 4, stayed f/s and pissed up.
@racingoncourse He’s thinking WTF I am doing here when we could be at Hexham! Did not enjoy viewing yesterday, and have no interest in taking part today. Where is the racing line? What will the going be? Will horses act on the track? Will jockeys make the right decisions? Equine bingo. Enjoy!
@chrisgambler247 The UK’s Claim Culture; it is always someone else’s fault! What happened to Personal Responsibility? And what did his Family do when all this was happening?
@AKBets@SimonNott@quevega@tony_calvin Why do certain people live in FEAR? Usually they are either unfit to do the job, or just incompetent. Horse Racing, @DCMS@GamRegGB are rife with them. Hence the shambles we are in!
@SmarterSig@Golfpunter1 Totally up to Flutter what they do, but Ladbrokes I think owned Betdaq for a while but I think gave it back to the original owner? The whole problem was that PP gained approval from CMA for the takeover due to them thinking there would be no impact on markets or customers?🫢
PP/ Flutter finally achieving their objective of marginalising the Betfair exchange. I would like to see whether they delivered against their initial business case in their 10 year projection.
So to give a quick follow up to yesterdays tweet. Given my position with regard to not providing further documentation beyond the account P/L the decision has been made to close the Master account. BTW all documentation was provided within the last 12 months and every year since the account has been a Master.
There is an interesting twist to the story though. I was hoping that it would be simple enough to transfer the balance to the original account. No, we cannot do internal transfers between accounts. Despite one of the sub accounts essentially being the same name as the very original BF account I would have opened in 2001.
So if I want to use a usual Betfair account I now have to redeposit funds into the account triggering deposit checks. To redeposit those funds I have to provide a source of wealth check. (i.e. where those funds have come from). I am not allowed to use the other Betfair account for that purpose.
I have no idea what the limits imposed on the account will be and just not sure I am that bothered at this stage. Just a waste of everyone's time.
I did suggest that the inability to make an internal transfer in this situation is a Betfair led initiative and that is was honestly absurd. He said this is the one thing I agree with you on. Lol. I do feel sorry for some of these customer service representatives being put in these situations. The arrogance and lack of contrition usually offsets that pretty quickly though.
I can only envisage a limited number of scenarios now where I will make the effort to fund and use the account with the various documentation. The reality is that I won't be betting any less over the coming year. It's simply that it won't be going through sites like Betfair.
Welcome to gambling in the UK in 2026.
@Golfpunter1 Totally agree. Just wish they would sell it. With the collapse in their share price, it could be part of a package of actions to reassure shareholders that they are focusing on their strengths and higher profit/cash contributors?
