@waitrose Re: ahistorical marketing. Tried new crisps, Steak Diane & Bloody Mary Prawn Cocktail. Quintessentially 1970s dishes yet marketed through the 1980s glam of Jilly Coopers bonkbuster "Rivals". But who saw Steak Diane at a Rutshire dinner party in the 1980s? Pas mois!
At #MBL Visual Neuroscience course w/ Anna Jansson @anna_m_neuro, Angel Robles-Gomez & Leonor Afrima. Using 2P microscopy to image transfer of visual signals into & out of bipolar cells in retina of larval zebrafish. Great fun! Thanks to Directors @RichKramerLab & @SchwartzLabNU
The actions of substance P reduce the flow of visual information, measured in bits, ∼3-fold. So while dopamine “pushes” the retina to transmit information at higher rates in the afternoon, substance P acts in antiphase to “pull down” information transmission in the morning.
😀
Modulation of retinal gain is accompanied by changes in patterns of vesicle release at the synapses of bipolar cells: increased gain shifts coding of stimulus strength from the rate of release events to their amplitude generated by a process of multivesicular release (MVR).
