🚨🚨 LAWSUIT #25: NetChoice Sues Nebraska to Stop Digital Censorship Imports to the Cornhusker State
LINCOLN, Neb.—Today, NetChoice sued Nebraska to stop the portions of LB 383 that force Nebraskans to surrender digital I.D.’s just to access lawful information and use everyday digital services like social media. This law creates significant cybersecurity risks and undermines parents’ authority online.
LB 383 is set to go into effect on July 1, 2026.
NetChoice is challenging Nebraska’s law to defend constitutional rights, digital safety, and meaningful solutions that protect families online.
“Nebraska’s new Digital ID law makes a mockery of the First Amendment. The government cannot condition access to fully protected speech on a person’s willingness to hand over their most sensitive information. In fact, there is a large, growing body of law explaining exactly why this approach is unconstitutional,” said @Paul_Taske, Co-Director of the NetChoice Litigation Center.
Taske continued: “Nebraska joined the fray on the wrong side. When a law goes against the Constitution, it is doomed from the start. Beyond its constitutional shortcomings, Nebraska’s law would actually make its citizens less safe. Digital ID laws, like those implemented in Europe, create honeypots of data that hackers and other bad actors will eagerly exploit for their own gain. Rather than continue down this unconstitutional, unsafe road, Nebraska should chart a new course with the Constitution as its compass.”
Small businesses shouldn’t have to build nationwide networks from scratch to be able to compete. Scalable logistics infrastructure gives SMBs the same access to fast, reliable shipping as retail giants.
Policymakers must protect this capability. 👏
As AI transforms higher education, K-12 curricula must evolve to prepare students for what's next.
We need to equip the next generation with the digital literacy and skills required for an AI-driven college experience and future workforce. 🧑💻
Families deserve real solutions that protect kids online without forcing unconstitutional mandates. 🪪
Our Digital Safety Shield offers a framework for lawmakers to fund law enforcement, boost digital education & empower parents.
Small businesses no longer need to build massive infrastructure from scratch to increase their competitiveness. Thanks to tech innovation, they can now access world-class logistics networks from Amazon, Shopify, UPS, and more. 🚚
Policymakers should support this innovation.
NetChoice Welcomes Nationwide Bipartisan Standard for AI Governance in Great American AI Act
WASHINGTON—Today, Reps. @JayObernolte and @RepLoriTrahan released a discussion draft of the Great American AI Act, a commendable bipartisan effort to put forward a nationwide framework for America’s governance of artificial intelligence (AI).
“NetChoice applauds Reps. Obernolte and Trahan for coming together and negotiating a strong, nationwide bipartisan law to govern American AI. We look forward to working with them to ensure the bill protects Americans and our businesses so we can lead in this burgeoning innovation,” said @pat_hedger, NetChoice Director of Policy.
Hedger continued: “The Great American AI Act is commendable, especially because it creates a federal standard, begins a study to protect Americans from government censorship, punishes bad actors abusing AI tools to hurt people rather than imposing unfair liability on platforms or developers, and bolsters educational efforts to ensure American students and workers are trained and prepared for the changes AI will bring to the workforce. There are some changes we’d like to work with the sponsors on, including the bill’s aggressive auditing regime and data sharing requirements for developers that could risk entrepreneurs’ trade secrets and private records. Overall, this draft is a great start, and we welcome the opportunity to collaborate with the bill sponsors on this laudable effort.”
An argument I often hear is, “given Germany’s unique history, shouldn’t we grant it some deference to censor?”
Here’s the kind of thing German censorship extends to:
Data centers are the physical backbone of today’s digital economy. Without them, all your messages, shared documents, screenshots, photos, videos and blogs would disappear.
This requires a skilled and reliable workforce, employing 5.5 million Americans directly and indirectly.
As AI transforms higher education, K-12 schools must evolve.
To prepare American students for success in college and the future workforce, we need a curriculum that embraces AI literacy, critical thinking, and creativity. 💡
The EU’s latest multi-million Euro fine against Google is pure political theater. 🎭️
