Congratulations to Westwinds Communities and the Town of Okotoks on the opening of Kennedy Terrace at D’Arcy!
With $850,000 in support from Alberta’s Affordable Housing Partnership Program, this 10-home development will provide safe, attainable housing for individuals and families. A fitting tribute to local community leader Sandi Kennedy!
Today I spoke directly to Albertans following yesterday’s referendum vote.
Alberta will remain in Canada, and for as long as I serve as premier, there will not be another referendum on the issue of separation.
I’m also pleased that Albertans also gave our government a mandate to take greater control over immigration, to ensure temporary residents pay their share of the services they use and to require proof of citizenship to vote. Those reforms are coming, and they will strengthen Alberta’s autonomy.
Now is the time to move forward not as a people divided by how we voted yesterday, but as neighbours, friends, Albertans and Canadians.
Together, we will keep Alberta and Canada forever strong and free.
Thank you, Alberta!
I’m very pleased to see the initial results from Elections Alberta show widespread support for remaining in Canada. Albertans have voted for a stronger Alberta in a united Canada.
Thank you to all Albertans who took time to vote on these critically important referendum questions.
Tomorrow evening, October 20, I will address Albertans live at 6:45 p.m. to discuss the results of all referendum questions for which results are available, and where our province goes from here.
Today you have a ballot in front of you.
“Yes to the Nine” means Alberta gets a real say over our own immigration, so growth matches the housing, schools and hospitals we have to support it. It means temporary programs contribute to the services they use. It means constitutional reforms that protect this province's authority no matter who sits in Ottawa.
Vote today.
✅ Vote for a stronger Alberta within a united Canada.
✅ Vote yes to the nine.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the tragic incident at CFB Wainwright, especially the families who have lost loved ones.
Assisted Living Alberta is making all necessary resources available to support the care being provided to those affected and their families during this difficult time.
Alberta is mourning alongside the Canadian Armed Forces and the families, friends and colleagues of those affected by the tragic incident at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright yesterday.
The loss of life and injuries are heartbreaking. On behalf of the Government of Alberta, I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and wish those who have been injured a full recovery. Our thoughts are also with the military personnel, families and colleagues facing uncertainty and grief during this incredibly difficult time.
We are deeply grateful to the first responders, paramedics, physicians, nurses and hospital teams across Alberta who have mobilized to provide care to those injured. Albertans should all be incredibly proud of their frontline health care workers and our acute care system that has managed this mass casualty event. We’re also thankful to our neighbours in Saskatchewan who did not hesitate to support our response with additional air ambulance capacity, and to other provinces who have reached out offering their support and condolences.
I will be traveling to Edmonton today to meet with provincial ministers and federal officials. The Government of Alberta continues to work closely with the federal government and local authorities. We have convened our Emergency Management Cabinet Coordination Committee and the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC) has been activated to a level 3.
As a mark of respect for those who have lost their lives and in solidarity with the military community and their families, flags at provincial government buildings across Alberta will be lowered to half-mast.
In the days ahead, our thoughts will remain with everyone affected by this tragedy. Alberta stands with the Canadian Armed Forces, the people of Wainwright and all those grieving during this difficult time.

Alberta closed the books on 2025-26 with a $2.2 billion surplus and the Heritage Savings Trust Fund finished the year at a record high of more than $32 billion.
We delivered that surplus in the same year we cut personal income taxes with a new 8% bracket, the lowest in the country. That put up to $750 back in the pocket of every Albertan and up to $1,500 back with the average family.
The Heritage Fund is on track to reach $35 billion in 2027 and $250 billion by 2050. Every dollar of income stays in and compounds. That is a promise to Albertans who come next and keeping it is one of the most important things this government will ever do.
Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting Fort McMurray with my friends @BrianJeanAB and @TanyYao.
We started with an FSCD engagement session, hearing directly from local service providers about what's working and where we can do better.
We also met with Wood Buffalo Housing to discuss the growing demand for seniors' housing, and Wood Buffalo Wellness (Tawaw) to talk about supporting housing in the region.
Our final stop was with the Autism Society of RMWB to hear about their expanding work supporting local individuals and families.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with us and share their experiences.
Advance polls are open until Saturday. Make sure to get out your vote in the referendum.
I’ll be voting for Option 1 to remain in Canada on question 10.
I’m voting Option 1 because standing up for Alberta and refusing to back down is working. The emissions cap is gone. C-69 no longer applies to our energy projects. Pacific Link is moving forward. We are getting results and we need to keep going.
And on questions 1 through 9, I’m voting YES. Alberta needs more authority to make decisions in our own interests, support more sustainable immigration and protect the social services Albertans rely on.

Four years ago today, Danielle Smith was elected Leader of the United Conservative Party, and look how far we've come.
We've cut taxes, doubled the Heritage Fund, led the country in job and economic growth, stopped Trudeau's bad laws to get pipelines built and double oil production, secured billions in investment for Alberta, made record investments in healthcare and education, and so much more. That's getting the job done.
Thank you to every member, volunteer, donor and supporter who helped get us here. There's lots more to do.
We’re strengthening supports for Albertans with disabilities. Today’s changes will restore full benefits for eligible couples, simplify the path between support programs, and give clients more flexibility in accessing medical documentation. We’re also advocating for a more flexible EI system that better reflects the realities of Albertans with disabilities whose conditions can temporarily affect their ability to work. We’ll keep listening to Albertans, their families, and community partners - taking action to provide greater stability, opportunity and choice. Read more here: https://t.co/H3PoWvcrIZ
It was a pleasure to celebrate the latest graduates of Mount Royal University’s Transitional Vocational Program!
For more than 40 years, the program has helped adults with developmental disabilities build the skills, experience, and confidence to work and live more independently.
This year, Alberta’s budget includes a record $126 million for employment services for Albertans with disabilities—helping create more opportunities for people to build their skills and reach their goals.
Congratulations to the 23 students on this exciting achievement!
Congratulations to Ansh Chavda of Edmonton, a 2026 Minister's Seniors Service Award recipient in the Individual category. His Project Care initiative helps seniors build intergenerational connections and reduce social isolation. Read more here: https://t.co/n5PAV8nWQM
For 28 years, the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards have recognized individuals and organizations whose compassion and dedication help Alberta seniors stay connected, supported and healthy.
Yesterday, on the Day of Older Persons, we celebrated this year’s recipients and the volunteers, organizations and community leaders making a meaningful difference across Alberta.
To those award winners, thank you for your service and leadership. Alberta is stronger because of you.

Seniors are the foundation of our province. They helped build the Alberta we know and love today, and have shaped the communities we call home through their wisdom, experience, and leadership. Seniors continue to give back through volunteer service, caregiving, mentorship and community leadership.
Alberta’s senior population is growing rapidly, with 890,000 seniors today calling our province home, and more than one million expected by 2034. We remain committed to supporting Alberta’s seniors with practical supports that help them to age with dignity, independence and connection in the communities they call home.
To every older Albertan: thank you for everything you have done and continue to do to strengthen our province. The example you have set continues to inspire younger generations, and reminds us all that strong, healthy communities are built through service, connection and care.
On behalf of Alberta’s government, I am proud to recognize the Day of Older Persons in Alberta and celebrate the seniors who make our province stronger every day.
🚨BREAKING
The federal NDP and Avi Lewis @avilewis just released a statement opposing the new pacific link pipeline and demanding it be halted. They oppose Alberta's Pacific Link pipeline and they will do everything in their power to kill it.
Understand what this means... This would kill 140,000 jobs. Stop tens of billions in new wealth for Albertans to build things like hospitals and schools. Lost jobs and lower paycheques for Alberta families.
Today I am calling on Naheed Nenshi @nenshi to do what he should have done a long time ago. Cut ties with his boss, Avi Lewis and the federal NDP. Officially, formally, in writing today. A clean break, right down to the name of their party.
Not doing so tells Albertans all they need to know about where the NDP stands on Alberta energy… which is “leave it in the ground”.
