It’s Dr Neuroblonde now! 👩⚕️Yesterday I successfully defended my PhD! 🎓 Immense gratitude to my incredible examiners @SelinaWray and @krista_rantanen for their insightful questions and making the Viva so enjoyable. Thank you @PataniLab@uclbbk_mrcdtp. Let the next chapter begin!
That is taking so much work to get the plight of PhD students taken seriously is absolutely horrifying. That these two are willing to take on that work a source of awe. Thanks SO much @neuroblonde & @emmarubyfrancis!
Everyone else: there's a call to write to your MPs. DO IT.

“We need to look more closely at how well the current system and government’s own support measures are helping students and what changes need to be made,”
The cost of living crisis in the U.K. hits PhD students hard, and more must be done to support PhD students financially. This Correspondence from Emma Francis & Hannah Franklin discusses challenges and solutions for this urgent problem.

@alice_quinton @emmarubyfrancis Alice, thank you for sharing and being part of this movement! Academic research should be not only feasible, but sustainable, for all who wish to contribute. We can, and must, do better👊
@NatureHumBehav@emmarubyfrancis The current infrastructure is unsustainable and not only halts research excellence and innovation, but creates a massive diversity issue. Academic research should be an option for all, not the few. Let's do better. We must keep this conversation going to ensure action is taken.

Thank you Nick Petrić Howe for inviting me to share my thoughts on this week’s @NaturePortfolio article on my great-aunt #RosalindFranklin. She was a formidable woman beyond the science. An advocate for equality, a mountaineer, and devoted to her friends and family.
