It makes financial sense for UTSA to join the Pac-12. If the Pac were to sweeten the deal with a little exit fee help, then it would be even more sense.
Quick Math…
If the average payout for PAC-12 teams is $11M (assuming the extra $2M from the Wazzu document only applies to them/OSU)
That means the breakeven point for UNT and UTSA (assuming a 2027 pac-12 addition) would be somewhere around 3-4 years (with no exit fee help)
@SDSU_Alum2003@txstbobs If UTSA isn't worth it, then nobody is. They are the best school in terms of conference geography, academics, and upward trajectory in athletics. They need to invest more, but right now their investment is within the range of current Pac-12 schools
@txstbobs I guess the key question is what do they bring in terms of media rights value. Commuter school or not, do people go to and watch the games? It's on the right trajectory, and would be a great travel partner for TXST
@Bomb3r_CFBMafia@TheWildUte@TBM_JY@ramblinroundup@RockyMoonShine2@TBM_Steve So here are the MWC vs New Pac 12 Settlement Predictions from a variety of Sportswriters/Podcasts.
Canzano - $70-80M
JY (Big MTN) - $80-95M
Steve (Big MTN) - $65-80M
Wilner (Mercury News) - < $65M
Zeigler (San Diego Union Tribune - $65M+
Another thought on this,
Obviously I am a Pac-12 account and normally I would be doing victory laps on this. But the truth is, we will likely never know what the final payout number is.
So who won? Probably nobody.
And who lost? Also, probably nobody.
The Mountain West and Pac-12 have reached a settlement in their lawsuit over exit fees and poaching fees. Terms have not been announced and must be filed with the court by June 2. More details to come.
Everyone keeps asking if the Pac-12 will ever get its “Power Conference” status back… and honestly, it’s not as crazy as people think.
People said the Big 12 was dead after Texas & Oklahoma left. Now look at it.
The new Pac-12 doesn’t need to become the SEC or Big Ten to be successful. It just needs: • CFP appearances • strong TV ratings • emerging brands • packed stadiums • national relevance again
And schools like Texas State, Boise State, SDSU, Wazzu, and Oregon State have a REAL opportunity to grow WITH the conference instead of sitting behind giant brands.
That’s the interesting part: The Pac-12 isn’t trying to rebuild the past anymore… it’s trying to build the next version of western college football.
If the league wins, stays stable, and gets the right media deal, perception changes FAST in college athletics.
People are underestimating how important these next 5 years are for the future of the Pac-12. 👀

Among the many things that I love about being in the @pac12 is that the conference honoured @GJKinne’s request that @TXSTATEFOOTBALL not play on Friday nights. That night belongs to #TXHSFB in these parts.🐾⭐️🏈
Oregon State has launched a $48 million athlete revenue-sharing initiative. Being anchored by a $24 million commitment from the Wayne and Gladys Valley Foundation to the OSU Foundation.
First official mockup of the Pac-12’s new logo on a white SDSU jersey. Instead of a patch, it appears that it will be stitched directly into the fabric, similar to the Big Ten.
