The crypto industry spectrum is divided into two extremes: institutionalised plays and on-chain economies.

Institutionalised plays: things like Circle, Robinhood, some CEXs.

On-chain economies: innovations evolving on a daily basis: footballdotfun, punk strategy, etc.

It��s practical to focus on one end, yet some do have the visions and talents to get involved on both ends, say Ethena.

Personally I am very interested to see how IPs x web3 get evolved, it’s one of the very few plays I think make sense to stay in the middle of the spectrum. While on-chain innovations are exciting for IPs, lots of the IP proliferations are still offline.

Can confirm it’s true. Newman invested in @BasedOneX (previously Suberra) several years back. They were just pivoting away from Terra because Terra was dead. These several years @edison0xyz were always relentlessly trying out different products in the payment space from b2b subscription, to their well-known crypto debit cards especially in Asia.

The industry has been brutal over the last two years and Edison has taken no salary for a long time, I forgot exactly how long. Despite that, every email he sent to investors has been very positive and he tried his best to stay motivated. This year there were conversations on acquisitions by others, but Edison wanted to have his last shot, launching the app he and the team had been building on @HyperliquidX.

The rest is history. Invest in founders.

.@BasedOneX’s last 24 hour revenue is 10x of the second place Phantom, standing at 800k atm. It’s officially the largest app on Hyperliquid. It also accounts for 17.5% of Hyperliquid’s trading volume.

Might be one of the best investments that I have made over the past few years. Now the question comes, when TGE @edison0xyz ?

Over last several years, me & Newman invested in and advised web3 projects in all verticals: NFTs, DeFis (tons of BTCfis), socials, gaming, infras, etc.

Not many know that, but Newman and myself have invested in / advised most NFT projects / their affiliations. @Igloo / @pudgypenguins , @animecoin @Memeland, @dapperlabs, @TaprootWizards, @RektCoin, @Pixelmon, @yugalabs (small $).

Since I dedicated time to the first @ComplexCon HK as an investor, I had gradually shifted focus to investing more time in web3 culture.

And fast forward to now, I am all in on web3 native IPs, I am all in supporting NFTs.

Insane story of @edison0xyz on @basedappHQ performance within one month launch of the app on @HyperliquidX - 1 billion USD trading volume within one month.

I can’t even recall how many times of pivot did Edison make to make this work, from the beginning built out on Luna, to base, to b2b subscription based payment solution, to the current product with pmf on Hyperliquid. Hearing a lot of amazing feedback from the Korean community.

That’s mamba mentality. Glad that @Newmancapitalvc backed Edison.

Was catching up with a fellow founder today, two projects that I think are interestingly tackling consumer crypto:

1) @Revolving_Games - as a studio, they are receiving millions of revenue from games launched, with 100% community-based tokens. First game @Hatchkings is perceived very well among community and $hatch is sitting at 55m FDV. Stay tuned to the main token launching soon.

2) @rektdrinks - they sold 500k+ (forgot exact number) of drinks with a incentive based mechanism. Started with a free minted NFT collection, the REKT brand also has a huge community on day 1 as consumers. $rekt sitting at ~120m.

No bs, if you don’t get consumers (users who pay for your products), you haven’t worked out consumer crypto, that simple..

we’ve had thousands upon thousands applying for the whitelist. we tried our best to reward consistency, creativity, and magical vibes. those who have been with us for 2 years and supported the movement had an advantage, but exceptional entries to Quest 5 were given a boost too.
