Don’t be discouraged by seemingly dead situations, because sometimes what appears dead is just preparing for a new season. #darkestbeforedawn

As harvesting gathers momentum, I am urging farmers to remain vigilant against veld fires. Maintain fireguards and fire-fighting teams, harvest promptly, and bale and remove wheat stover from the fields.Wheat stover should not be burnt. It is a valuable resource that can be converted into livestock feed. Don’t burn it, bale it! @MoLAFWRD_Zim

More importantly, to understand how these global agreements connect to what is happening on the ground in Africa.

Because the big question isn’t just what are the conventions? It’s do they actually make a difference, and what happens when we bring them together?

[Rumbie Takawira @Newsbae]

This year, the three Rio Conventions are taking centre stage, but what exactly are they, and why do they matter? As we step out of @Cop17Mongolia, I’m beginning a journey to unpack the Rio Trio, “climate, biodiversity and land degradation”#cop17 #conservation #cop31

In Mutirikwi and Tokwe sub-catchments, women handle water for their homes, gardens, and livestock. But a recent assessment by EnviroPress Zimbabwe with support from @IUCN has found they are largely left out of water governance.
Key findings:
65% of women have received no formal training in water management.
Younger women (25–40) want to lead but lack access o lead but lack access to information.
Socio-cultural norms still limit women's participation in public roles.
"I would like to be involved but my knowledge is very limited," said a woman from Chatsworth, Gutu district.
With climate stress increasing, excluding women from water decisions is a risk communities cannot afford.

6/6 - The discussions made one thing clear, The Parks & Wildlife Amendment Act could reshape conservation in Zimbabwe, but its success will depend on clear implementation, policy alignment, and strong community participation.

[Rumbie Takawira @Newsbae]

1/6- Who owns wildlife in Zimbabwe? Who benefits from conservation? From rhino ownership to buffer zones and the human-wildlife conflict Relief Fund, here’s what emerged as @Zimparks this week convened stakeholders in Harare to unpack the Parks & Wildlife Amendment Act 2024.

[Rumbie Takawira @Newsbae]

5/6 - Then there is the issue of Rhino Ownership (property rights). 90% of rhinos are held in private conservancies. Only 10% are under state custody. This raises complex questions around custodianship, incentives, and long-term protection of endangered wildlife.

For years Zimbabwe couldn’t sell value-added elephant products, but now it can legally trade things like elephant leather bags and wallets after CITES updated the rules .. however ivory trade is still NOT permitted. What’s your take on this?

[Zimparks @Zimparks]

1/5 Zimbabwe and the SADC bloc have scored a major diplomatic victory at CITES CoP20 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Parties voted to adopt a proposal that strengthens sustainable use pathways and recognises the success of Southern African conservation models.

At #CITESCoP20 Monday, the proposal to delete bontebok (Damaliscus pygargus pygargus) from Appendix II due to the recovery of South Africa's endemic population was hailed as a “conservation success.”
