Scripture is clear: At Pentecost the disciples spoke real known languages so people from every nation could understand the Gospel (Acts 2). Paul teaches that tongues without interpretation don’t edify the church only the speaker (1 Cor 14:2-4). If nobody understands, how does it build God’s people?

The gift served a special purpose in the early church to proclaim Christ. The Bible warns us not to add to or twist God’s words. Let’s stick to what edifies the body: clear teaching of Scripture, not confusion. Don’t mock God with things not commanded for today.
‘Let all things be done for building up.’ (1 Cor 14:26) What does the Bible say to you? 🙏

Revelation 22:18-19 (KJV, often cited): “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”

2 Peter 3:16 (ESV): Speaking of Paul’s letters (and by extension other Scriptures), “There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.”

Those who deliberately distort God’s word bring destruction upon themselves.

Galatians 1:6-9: Paul is shocked that people are turning to a “different gospel” and says that anyone who distorts the gospel of Christ should be “accursed” (eternally condemned). Anatama!

“But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, let him be anathema [accursed]! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let him be anathema!”

She is not talking about Afrikaners (white South Africans of Dutch heritage). That would be a very different point, and the word she uses is clearly "Afrikanen." just pointing it out incase my Afrikaner friends think different.

She's arguing that:
Granting legal citizenship (a passport) on a massive scale does not automatically turn people into real members of the Dutch nation.
National identity ("feeling at home," knowing the people, sharing the culture and way of life) is deeper than paperwork.
If you want to keep the Netherlands Dutch where things feel familiar and "like home" then large-scale immigration from very different cultures (her example: millions of Africans) breaks that continuity.

She points out that many people with Dutch passports (especially in big cities) still feel more connected to their grandparents' country of origin than to the Netherlands, and therefore don't truly identify as Dutch.

(Mr. Van Baarle) pushes back by saying that legally, anyone with a Dutch passport is a Dutch citizen, and she doesn't get to decide who is "really" Dutch.

She doubles down: Legal definition is one thing, but in reality (how people feel, behave, and identify), it doesn't work that way especially with very large numbers and cultural distance.

It's wild how Afrikaans gives you a cheat code for Germanic languages 😂

As an Afrikaans speaker you can read Dutch almost perfectly, understand a ton of written German, pick up loads of words in Norwegian/Swedish/Danish... all without studying.
