I’ve mentioned before that I’m skeptical of the idea that podcasts contribute to a decline in reading, especially nonfiction. My own reading, history in particular, has benefited from discovering books through podcasts. This is the latest example:

@vplus yes, yes i was, don't remember which, and even got to 'party' with the band for 15 minutes as part of a press gig. remember feeling 1,000 years old when the band played Superman and all the kids in the audience stood up and stretched their arms up. I was 24.

.@petersuderman leads a great discussion #Bourdain biopic on today's @reason Roundtable (subscribe now!), of how the movie is abt a guy who needs to experience life before he can write authoritatively. @reason's @ToddKrainin did a great video obit on that theme in 2018.

IMO, Tom Lehrer was right to slag Little Boxes "as the most sanctimonious song ever written." Reduces other people's postwar upward striving to mere conformity based on superficial attributes. A lefty tune filled with dumb moralizing that ignores class as an analytic category!

Singer/songwriter Malvina Reynolds is best remembered for her song “Little Boxes,” a gently mocking ode to bourgeois conformity that helped define the early 1960s folk music revival.

“Little Boxes” gave Pete Seeger his only gold record.
