A new frontier . After launching #projectindus we now launch Indus Terra grounded on education , piloted by school kids with our partners @nvidia and @awscloud
Advancing India's indigenous #AI journey, Tech Mahindra has soft launched Indus Terra, our foundational LLM for education from Grades 2 to 12. Designed to make learning more accessible in Indian languages, Indus Terra marks an important milestone in our AI journey as we celebrate 40 years of Tech Mahindra.
The launch brought together our partners, educators, and students to explore how AI can make a meaningful difference in the classroom.
The proceedings kicked off with an address by Nikhil Malhotra, followed by insightful keynotes from our partners Ankush Sabharwal, Biswajit Das, and Kumar Nilesh. A thought-provoking panel discussion, moderated by Chetan Shethi and featuring perspectives from CoRover, NVIDIA, Dr. Mohit Dubey and Saurabh Jha, further explored the possibilities shaping India's AI journey.
One of the most defining moments was seeing students from our pilot schools put Indus Terra to the test live on stage. They challenged the platform with questions that tested its capabilities, including security and governance. The students brought their curiosity and tough questions, and Indus Terra rose to the challenge, demonstrating its potential as an AI powered learning companion for Bharat.
As we mark four decades of Tech Mahindra, Indus Terra represents a step forward in our commitment to building technologies that are rooted in inclusivity and designed for a limitless future.

Every story begins with curiosity.
Every breakthrough begins with the courage to try.
And every idea has the power to create an impact beyond itself.
For 40 years, associates, partners, customers and friends have each added a chapter to the @tech_mahindra journey, shaping it through curiosity, collaboration, courage and transformation.
As we celebrate #TechM40, we’re celebrating the stories that brought us here.
In this episode, @nickmalhotra, our Chief Innovation Officer & Global Head-AI, looks back at nearly two decades of his journey with Tech Mahindra, from pioneering research and building #MakersLab to exploring ideas that challenged the conventional and turned curiosity into action. From a bike that refused to stand on its own to innovations born during the COVID-19 crisis, his story is a reminder that innovation often begins with a simple question: “Why not try?”
And perhaps most importantly, it is a story of how curiosity, courage and the freedom to experiment can create an impact that reaches far beyond the idea itself.
As we turn the page on 40 remarkable years, we invite you to hear the stories behind the journey.

Human ingenuity for the last 12 years. It was always an idea where ideas take shape. We today are a team which shares this success with all impacted by the lab. My salute to leaders for guiding us and colleagues who have supported the lab.
12 years ago, we started with a simple belief: the future belongs to those who dare to imagine it.
Since then, Tech Mahindra #MakersLab has been a space where curiosity meets technology, ideas meet experimentation, and imagination meets real world impact.
From #AI and #robotics to #quantum computing, immersive technologies and language models, Makers Lab has continuously explored what’s next, while keeping one question at the heart of innovation: How can technology create a better future?
Today, as we celebrate 12 years of Makers Lab, we celebrate more than milestones. We celebrate the innovators, researchers, academia, startups and partners who have dared to experiment, challenge the conventional and create what once seemed impossible.
Here’s to 12 years of curiosity. 12 years of experimentation. 12 years of making what’s next, possible.
And the best part? We’re just getting started.

AI is redefining how the world builds, scales and transforms, with India at the forefront of this shift.
We’re delighted to share that @tech_mahindra's #MakersLab has been recognised in @MITSMRIndia's AI20, spotlighting our leadership in building and scaling #AI for real-world impact.
We are advancing sovereign and inclusive AI with initiatives like #ProjectIndus, enabling access across India’s rich linguistic diversity and driving enterprise adoption at scale in line with the country’s evolving AI ambitions.

@Vic_Vij@anandmahindra@tech_mahindra Agreed Vijay ji that’s why we did not hurry up in making this . We realized India’s linguistic diversity goes far beyond mother tongues . It’s the way human thoughts convert to action in your own local dialects . Project Indus has that data collected for Hindi and 37+ dialects
@Vic_Vij@anandmahindra@tech_mahindra Yes it does but with Hindi and dialects as written in the post . And Orion and Indus are two separate projects while Indus is a LLm Orion is an agentic AI enterprise
Thank you @anandmahindra for your belief and support in what we're building at @tech_mahindra. Project Indus and Orion are just the beginning of Sovereign AI at scale - rooted in India and built for the world.
Proud of the team, @nickmalhotra.

#ScaleAtSpeed
India’s AI strategy must rest on two pillars: building sovereign models tailored to our needs, and deploying them at scale for a billion people.
Which is why I was so pleased to see @Tech_Mahindra recognised by MIT Sloan in its AI20 list of Indian organisations distinguished for technical differentiation, funding momentum and market impact.
What stands out to me is that TechM is pursuing both pillars simultaneously.
Project Indus, its 8-billion-parameter Indic language foundation model backed by the IndiaAI Mission, is focused on creating AI rooted in India’s linguistic diversity. Orion, its agentic AI platform, is about applying AI at scale across enterprises and public systems.
And this recognition is not occurring in isolation. Gartner has named TechM an Emerging Leader in Generative AI Consulting and Implementation Services. The WEF selected it for the MINDS cohort advancing linguistic and digital equity through AI. And the Government of India chose it as the only large IT services company among eight organisations tasked with building sovereign foundational AI models.
One line in the MIT Sloan report particularly resonated with me: meaningful AI innovation does not come only from startups.
At this stage of the AI revolution, scale itself becomes a strategic advantage. Distribution, domain expertise and the ability to deploy rapidly across real-world systems matter…
Or, as TechM puts it: “Scale at Speed.”

@HarshTiwar10933@tech_mahindra You are right hence the philosophy now should be objective . Despite all claims LLMs still play a role in the form of DSLM or agentic so while the hype curve shows them in trough of disillusionment they will continue to play a part. The architecture is bound to change though
@HarshTiwar10933@tech_mahindra It’s already done and more is underway . See project Indus from Techmahindra pie sovereign LLM built for India two years back and being the only IT services company doing it from grounds up tells you our story .
Breaking: #SovereignAI is on the rise.
New regulations, geopolitical changes, and the downsides of relying on externalized #AI models mean one thing: Enterprises can no longer treat control over their AI as optional.
If AI models help make compliance or strategic decisions, the organization using them must be the one governing it.
