@ericjang11 Best of luck Eric. I often remember your advice and your writing when I’m thinking through problems I’m working on. Looking forward to what you’re doing next!
A lot of these design decisions were learned from deploying and supporting Spot. And FWIW, internally a lot of us had qualms about the aesthetic too — but it’s hard to argue with how easy this design makes *everything*, whether manufacturing or safety or controls
I see people bagging on the design - but reducing the amount of unique parts & simplifying assembly/maintenance in these industrial systems is such a major win
I support it. Simplify simplify simplify
We’re making great progress with our Gemini Robotics work in bringing AI to the physical world - a critical aspect of AGI. As part of our next steps, super excited to announce our partnership with @BostonDynamics, combining our SOTA robotics models with their world-class hardware
We just released results for our newest VLA from Physical Intelligence: π*0.6. This one is trained with RL, and it makes it quite a bit better: often doubles throughput, enables real-world tasks like folding real laundry and making espresso drinks at the office.
Today I’m proud to share what I’ve been working on recently with my team at @BostonDynamics along with our collaborators at @ToyotaResearch .

Atlas is demonstrating reinforcement learning policies developed using a motion capture suit. This demonstration was developed in partnership with Boston Dynamics and @rai_inst.
@simonkalouche Just saying, this comparison is odd. You’re comparing middleware to a programming language. You could rewrite ROS in Rust if you wanted to (and which you probably did to some degree)
Atlas is autonomously moving engine covers between supplier containers and a mobile sequencing dolly, using ML to detect and localize the environment fixtures and individual bin. There are no prescribed or teleoperated movements. https://t.co/br63dMoB7C
The fact that context was added to this video is interesting. in the limit, it should make no difference to a user whether a robot is being teleoperated or moving autonomously if it gets its job done. that *should* only matter to the seller
