Transforming an economy requires bold ideas, but delivering them requires collaboration across government.
The Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System delivered by @NipostNgn has been a truly collective effort, made possible through the invaluable support of the National Population Commission (NPC), the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF), the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
This partnership demonstrates what is possible when government institutions combine their expertise and work towards a shared national objective.
As we scale adoption, we will be working with every ministry, department and agency of government to find their postcode at https://t.co/sBX46vvIjw and start using it.
We are deeply grateful to all our partners. Truly, it takes a village.

Nigeria now has a national digital addressing system giving every location a precise digital identity.
The National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System, will make it easier to find people, businesses, improve emergency response and access to location-based services.
Built in Nigeria. Ready for the world.
Today, I want to celebrate @milsat_africa, founded by Taslim Saluadeen and Adedamola Baderinwa, the Nigerian company behind the technology powering our new National Digital Postcode.
From delivering a pilot in 2023 to building a national system, Milsat demonstrates the depth of Nigerian technical capability and our ability to create infrastructure that improves public services, supports businesses and opens up economic opportunities.
Their work extends beyond postcode. Milsat supported the National Population Commission’s mapping of more than 65 million properties in preparation for Nigeria’s first digital census, and has deployed enumeration area demarcation technology in Sierra Leone.
This is the ambition I want us to nurture: Nigerian companies building solutions for our needs, proving their capabilities at home and taking that expertise to the world.
With appreciation to @NipostNgn, Meeds Network Limited and the National Population Commission for their roles in this journey, today’s spotlight belongs to the Milsat team.
I look forward to seeing you help many more countries turn location and field data into better services for their people.

We’ve agreed that every Nigerian deserves to be found but not everyone has a smartphone, access to the internet, or someone to show them how to find their postcode.
This is where we can help one another.
Visit https://t.co/7TClh91Owu to find and save your building’s postcode.
Then, if you can, help three people find theirs. It could be your parents, a neighbour, a nearby trader, or someone who just needs a little guidance.
Ask their permission, help them identify the correct building, and show them how to save or write down the postcode.
If they can, encourage them to spread the word, and help someone else too. As we build a more connected Nigeria, each of us can help someone take that next step.
This is a simple act of neighbourliness.
Share your experience with me, without revealing anyone’s address or personal details.
NOTE: * Participation is voluntary, assistance is free, and taking part does not make anyone a government or @NipostNgn representative.
*Also please respect people’s privacy and do not collect or keep their personal information.

In Nigeria, staying focused on long-term foundations can be tough, but few things are more rewarding. Our people deserve that investment.
What this developer is building with the new postcode system shows what Nigerians can do when those foundations are in place. This government is committed to laying many more.
To our builders: the postcode is yours to build on. What will you create?
"Some moments you plan for. Some moments you fight for.
Yesterday, Nigeria launched the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System. By the end of launch day, Nigerians had made almost 900,000 postcode requests, with a 99.8% success rate.
These are the people who carried this when it was only an idea. Through the long nights, the setbacks, the doubts, and the meetings that went nowhere, they kept building. NIPOST is in the middle of reform, and reform is hard, quiet work. It doesn’t give you many days to stop and celebrate.
Today is one of those days.
To every member of the NIPOST & Postcode team: this is your victory. You didn’t only build a system. You gave every Nigerian home, business and community an address that can be found, served and counted. Thank you for believing when it was hardest to believe.
This is only the beginning. The NIPOST we are building is one Nigerians can be proud of, and days like this are proof that it is coming" ~ @tola_odeyemi

Who you work with determines how far you can go.
Nigeria, meet your Postmaster General, @tola_odeyemi!
It has been a pleasure working with Tola, whose leadership and determination, alongside her team at @NipostNgn, have brought our new National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System to life.
Behind every milestone are people who put in the work. Today, I celebrate Tola and her team for delivering something that will touch lives across Nigeria.
Thank you, Tola. Proud of what we are building! We will make it count!
Launching Nigeria’s National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System is the first step. Its true impact will come as we weave it into how we live, do business, connect with one another and deliver services across every corner of our country.
Every postcode should mean something tangible: a customer reached, a delivery completed, a community better served, or help arriving where it is needed.
To our developers and innovators: let’s build on it. The API provides a foundation for integrating the postcode into the products and services Nigerians use every day.
📖 API documentation: https://t.co/3nfy4po9Po
🔗 Register your organisation: https://t.co/VxmhmlbwSu
To access the API:
1. Create an organisation account.
2. Submit your Know Your Business (KYB) documentation.
3. Request API access, specifying the access level you need.
4. Receive staging tokens to develop and test your integration.
5. Complete User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with NIPOST’s technical and compliance teams, where required.
6. Receive production tokens and go live.
@bosuntijani@NipostNgn Regular upgrades & data fixes will come @bosuntijani, but this is real national progress.
It's a good news from God for Nigeria and what a birthday gift for me also! I'm even happier to see it's launched on my birthday

In the days, weeks and months ahead, my office will work with @NipostNgn and key actors across government, business and the technology community to embed this new national asset in our everyday lives.

I also want to hear your ideas.
How can we embed the alphanumeric postcode in commerce, transport, healthcare, agriculture, emergency response and community life?
What would you build, and what problem would it solve?
Nigeria’s new postcode system could quietly solve one of our most frustrating everyday problems: being difficult to locate
Nigeria has launched a National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System, giving every addressable building a unique 11-character, GIS-enabled code. Nigerians can retrieve theirs through NIPOST’s official platform.
The real benefit may be much bigger than receiving parcels.
Think about how Nigerians still give directions: “after the filling station, turn left, ask for Mama Tunde’s shop…”
That inconvenience has economic consequences.
Delivery riders burn more fuel looking for customers. Businesses lose orders when addresses cannot be found. Ambulances and emergency responders can lose precious minutes. Government agencies also struggle to accurately locate households and communities.
NIPOST estimates poor addressing contributes to ₦50bn – ₦80bn in annual losses from failed and missed deliveries alone.
A postcode tied precisely to a building could eventually make ordering goods, opening accounts, verifying addresses, accessing emergency services and even running an online business from a remote community easier.
But the technology itself is only half the job.
For it to genuinely change daily life, banks, logistics companies, government agencies, emergency services and Nigerians themselves must actually start using the codes.
The breakthrough will come when giving someone your postcode becomes as normal as giving them your phone number.
