Truly happy that @pankajsekh has won this award. He deserves it for the grit and passion with which he has fought, is fighting, the absurd destructive infra project in Great Nicobar. Frontline is proud to have been part of his writings.
Just received a copy of @yashoazad ‘s new book “Policing The Republic” an insider’s view on policing India! Looking forward to reading it and insights offered after a long career in law enforcement.
India policing for the State, against the citizen. A young man joins public life. And is visited by police. Intimidation that keeps many away from taking the plunge into public and political spheres.

Two hours ago, the Pondicherry Police showed up at my family’s home and subjected them to all kinds of questioning. Why this harassment, @PuducheryPolice? Who ordered this and for what purpose? Is this the legal procedure? Why is the BJP government in Pondicherry intimidating my family? This is not the character of the Pondy government. This is being done at the behest of the Union government!
If the intention is to intimidate me into silence, it will not work. This will not cower me down. It only strengthens our resolve to build a better system, one where the police uphold the law instead of acting like goondas!

He didn’t “betray” his company. Ranbaxy eventually pleaded guilty to multiple serious criminal
offences and even paid a fine of $ 500 million. Dinesh Thakur blew the whistle against a company that systematically falsified drug test data and violated manufacturing standards jeopardising the health of millions of unsuspecting customers. And he did that even when he stood to lose everything he had worked for his whole life.
And the world knows about what the Singh brothers (Malvinder and Shivender who were the promoters of Ranbaxy) did thereafter for which they went to jail.
Visually challenged students protest at NIVH Dehradun!
Really concerned to see this.. I use to visit the institute while at school and have always been proud of it being situated in Dehradun.
President Draupadi Murmu recently spent her birthday here. #NIEPVD
‘Dehradun’s National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities is facing a student protest that exposes a serious gap between its name and the reality students describe. The institute functions under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, yet students say their concerns have remained unresolved despite repeated representations to authorities’

The attempt to resurrect Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's legacy bigger than it really was, is really not needed. The current incumbent's communal bigotry is enough to differentiate. On many other counts, including a corrupted gov't and state-licensed excesses under his watch were what current gov't now deploys at scale and with greater impunity. He was, in the least, unwilling to tame the 'animal spirits' that destroyed systems and lives.
For example: He was set against the most key provisions of the Forest Rights Act and National Food Security Act and RTI.
It was other parts of Congress, including Ms Sonia Gandhi, who would prevail upon him on these counts.
2. RTI, one of the only tools us citizens have to keep holding the government accountable, was defanged in the name of “privacy”.
We will tell you all about it soon. Stay tuned.
